There should be 10 a/c bus shelters in major locations and other smart bus stops with ATMs in other areas of the city. In extended and outlying areas, fix and assemble type bus shelters can be provided. The bus shelters can have roof top solar panels so that they can be self-sufficient in power requirements.
Suburban Railway System:
The plan for a suburban rail network has also to be worked out with connections to Tirupur and Mettupalayam and with gauge conversion to Pollachi and Udumalpet. Reopening of old stations and construction of new stations has to be undertaken under PPP mode or Shramdhan scheme.
Sustainable MRTS:
The city has to plan a modern rail based mass transit system apart from the road based Bus rapid transit system (BRTS) planned. The Honorable Chief Minister had suggested monorail and the corporation also had passed a resolution a couple of years ago. Modern hybrid systems have been developed (like the Metrail under construction in UK and Dubai which functions fully on fuel cells and renewable energy and matches metro capacity) and its feasibility has to be wor
Green drives:
The city should implement the already prepared city mobility plan with adequate funding from smart city plan directed towards developing cycling tracks and green driveways. These should come at ideal locations like the lakes, Sanganoor canal and Noyyal River banks.
Intelligent Transport System:
Coimbatore should have a well-developed intelligent transport system network. The corporation, Transport department, highways department and Police should join hands to evolve and develop a model and unique ITS for the city. The ITS should integrate with signalling systems, buses and parking areas.
Non polluting transport:
Plan for nonpolluting public transport. Introduce CNG buses or fuel cell or solar buses. The city should have air conditioned bus services also. TNSTC should introduce smart cards also.
