Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th October, 2015.

Online e-portal deployment for better inter-departmental coordination and planning for repair and maintenance works, especially at junctions. Such activities to be permitted only during off-peak hours and disruption time should be minimized.

Deploying wardens at crucial junctions to manage pedestrian traffic can be an effective approach. By proposing sky walks, separate foot paths, and pedestrian fencing at the median and side of the road will reduce disruptions of vehicle flow and improve pedestrian safety.

Infrastructure investments should be made with the long-term city master plan in mind. The benefits of infrastructure investments can be realized only in the longer term.

Implement Aadhar card for all city residents and avoid duplicate resources and their subsidies. Encourage people to work and earn livelihood.
Implement fine system through centralized places or courts or online systems (avoid spot fine by traffic polices, they are really misusing) for crossing red signals or no helmet or misusing other government places
And create awareness through school kids, students and create value based society, if need be send students to do social work 1day per month

We seriously need to improve on Roads size and usage, In 100ft road, some areas reduce to 60 feet, identify such bottle necks and improve the part immediately by acquiring the extra land if require even it is from temple or mosque or church or by clearing encroachments
Need to Create express ways with in city limit(like Singapore) and link it to inner roads, so that we can reach one side to other end with in 1/2 hr.
Make sure the bus stops at busbay and ensure they are not at junction or signal

Sanitation:
(i) This may sound crazy. We may train dogs to pick up small liftable garbage & put it in dustbin. if dogs can be used for sniffing for customs @ airports, it can be trained to pick up small garbage created through out the day as well. It is practically not possible for sanitation worker to keep cleaning through out the day but a trained dog can do. it would be a shame for a defaulter as well when they see dogs are using dustbins. GPS tags can be used to monitor dogs to track.

In today's newspaper (13th Oct'15), I see an article that CC is expecting some different kind of suggestion for smart city and not the usual civic issues. There is always ladder to move up but it is very clear that the fundamental needs are yet to be met for chennai people. Unless we move one step up on this part, we can not even get closer to the smart city vision.

These feedbacks are not to be considered seriously, understand why they are being provided and realize they need to closed first

1.IT IS VERY GOOD MOVE BY THE GOVT OF INDIA AS WELL AS GOVT OF TAMIL NADU.
2.I WOULD LIKE SHARE ONLY ONE THING,THAT IS YOU DO WHAT EVER DEVELOPMENT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY.
3.THERE SHOULD BE PROPER WATCHDOG PROVIDED.THAT IS OUR PM OR CM ARE PLANNING WELL BUT OTHER POLITICIANS LIKE WARD COUNCILOR OR MINISTERS SHOULD NOT INTERFERE THE WORKING AGENCIES.
4.THAT IS ALLOW AGENCIES TO WORK FREELY .THE POLITICIAN SHOULD WATCH THE WORK ONLY.IF EXECUTION AND MONITORING IS OK THE SMART CITY GLOW
