Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world railway systems generate 10% to 20% of their revenues from non-tariff sources.

IR typically has focused on increasing revenues through tariff hikes. It wants to change this and challenge the conventional thinking by exploiting new sources of revenue so that every asset, tangible or non-tangible, gets optimally monetized

We invite ideas from citizens on increasing non fare revenue for Indian Railways.

Sir,
The local train fairs are kept at very low, keeping in view of daily commuters. However, many persons can travel with paying premium price for the same distance. Railways can think of starting premium coaches in the local trains to earn more revenue.

Sir,
Many of the trains have more number of stoppages in short distances. Railways can reduce the no of stoppages and can provide intercity passenger travel arrangements to cover up all the stations and cities. This will reduce the train travel time. This, in later stage give scope to run more trains on the same tracks and can earn more revenue.

There should be checking system like metros in each railway station. Before enter on platform every one's ticket must be checked, without that no one should allow to go on platform.

Sir I am a defense person I suggest that there should be removal of military coaches since it is very old pattern in place of it military person do their reservation own and direct claim the ticket in their respective offices as per their authorisation it might also increase non fare revenue.

The reservation form should contain a question SNORER/NON-SNORER. Allot berths to all snorers in specified places. Anyone found snoring in non-snoring zones should be charged ₹100. Railways make a fortune by way of snoring fees and by extra revenue coming from people who will prefer train journey as they will be no longer scared of snorers, as is the case now.

As the longevity of people has increased, it is suggested that the 'senior citizen concession' age limit may be increased to 70 years for ladies and 75 for gentlemen.

I will like to give three suggestion.
1.Customer is god, this philosophy is missing in parcel booking department people who directly deals with customer.
2.You should create goods booking and collection centres across cities business/manufacturing hubs.
3.Higher level of corruptions, time wastage in booking, double payment for loading for goods in parcel wagons(parcel booking staff says that due to shortage of manpower you have to pay for transport for your goods to parcel van by private coolie
