The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Act, 1956 is being amended to modernize and strengthen the rural economy by focusing on three key pillars: diversification and new technology, formalization of village industries, and inclusivity and institutional strengthening. The proposed amendments aim to update the definition of "village industry" to align with MSME guidelines, incorporate new technologies like solar energy, expand the list of eligible industries, improve market access through e-commerce, and enhance support for artisans, women, and youth.

Mobile rice mill. आजकल, mini rice mill (यह k v i c में listed है) का concept , लmobile rice mill मेंबदल गया है।

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Act, 1956 was created to promote khadi and rural industries and to support employment in villages. Over the years, several amendments have strengthened the Act and expanded the role of the Commission.
The 1961 amendment reorganized KVIC and clarified its powers in planning, funding, and development work. A major reform came in 1987, when the definition of “village industries” was broadened to include rural engineering, agro-based industries, and handicrafts. This helped KVIC support more types of rural enterprises.
The 2006 reforms modernized khadi production by improving certification, upgrading wages for artisans, and encouraging better marketing. The 2017 amendment further improved governance by adding expert members and boosting schemes like PMEGP for rural entrepreneurship.
Overall, these amendments helped KVIC evolve into a stronger institution that promotes self-reliance, rural employment, and sustainable village industries.

In my opinion Khadi is definitely a quality product of our nation and we are proud of it too.
my suggestion is that we need to do something about it's product price
it's expensive and many people still can't afford to purchase khadi product. Obviously I don't wish that seller lose their profit.

Khadi, once a symbol of India's struggle for independence, has today transformed into a powerful engine of rural empowerment, sustainable fashion, and economic self-sufficiency. Overseen by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), a statutory body under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, this sector is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, blending tradition with modern market dynamics.
By choosing Khadi products, consumers are not just making a fashion statement; they are supporting a movement that provides livelihoods to millions of artisans, preserves traditional craftsmanship, and contributes to a sustainable future for rural India.
