Chennai - A Global Smart City in Making

Start Date :
Sep 16, 2015
Last Date :

00:00 AM IST (GMT +5.30 Hrs)
Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city ...
Many people tell their broad views, but we need specifity of what exactly needs to be done to achieve those goals, it's a mission time., and my suggestions are as follows to corporation of chennai.
1. Create a "Model Area" for each area wise, map and landscape each "Model Area".
2. Conduct voting for each model area, let the localities vote for their desired area theme, also invite suggestions and complaints from the local area people because only they knows the problems well. points ctnd.,
Few basic and mandatory things:
Uninterrupted Power supply without voltage shedding
Uninterrupted Water supply
Traffic discipline and strict punishments for violations
Traffic lights to work properly (most yellow lights do not work)
Clean roads with sufficient sign boards
Proper sewage and garbage treatment
Proper parking facilities
Abolish Encroachment on roads and pavements
Side walks on all roads
Maintain proper parks and playgrounds for recreation
Why not make Chennai green, garbage free? Let us initiate Ecopot garbage gardens in most homes& grow vegetables from organic wastes-solves garbage 50%, less air pollution, healthy vegetables too, less mosquitoes, clean roads. This is posted in http://indiawater.gov.in/misc/MISC_AdvApp.aspx innovation l no 95 Ecopots.Chennai can have less air pollution too.Less garbage, less landfills too. Only green home solution for all organic wastes, homes or hotels.Enforce Ecopot garbage garden& be clean
Bus rapid transit - I've been to other cities quite often but as far as I'm concerned I really think chennai cities lay out is fantastic compared to those of Bangalore and Mumbai. BRTs can be implemented in bigger roads with change in bus routes to main roads and with increasing the already existent small buses to smaller roads connecting bigger roads will actually uplift the city to a smart city. This will ultimately reduce the dust andnoise pollution and traffic in the city.Stressfree life:)
Transportation will change the air quality of the city and induce pollution. Make all the roads clean and well laid.extend suburban and metro services to nook and corner of the city.i am from ambattur which is the western suburb of chennai. the distance between ambattur and koyambedu is around 12-15 kms. it takes around 40 minutes to reach koyambedu busstand from here. if the suburban railway from anna nagar is extended to koyambedu we can reach koyambedu with in 15 minutes.
As I fell Chennai have good transport, hygienic and humanity derives but to be smart city this standard isn't enough.Chennai is one of the bussiest commercial in all sectors it attracts and faces more people from all parts of India coming to do business and to work in all other sectors like IT,MEDICAL,INDUSTRIAL,INFRASTRUCTURE,etc. To be global city it needs a broader and good road facility and low congested roads to COME IN AND OUT OF THE CITY. So it's necessary to concentrate in this.
DUST- free chennai!
I stay on the 3rd floor of my apartment complex that is at least 200 meters from the road. However, each time I open the cupboard of my dresser, I find a thick layer of dust inside!
I suggest we should make sure all open stretches of land are covered - by material like stone slabs / brick-work / grass. Each owner of buildings should be held responsible for this - much like is (or was) being done for Rain-Water-Harvesting.
A smart city should MOST CERTAINLY be clean and hygienic. So, we need to ensure: i) public toilets are build within easy reach of people (specially commuters) and are maintained well. ii) open defacation should be BANNED completely - including on the lovely beaches of the city!
I suggest citizens be empowered to nab those that are in violation of these norms (open defaction, urination, etc)
Sir,the new business area-sort of satellite finance & business hub, encompassing finance companies, planners, HR agencies, brokerages/underwriters/insurers, business houses, convention centers, hotels, serviced apartments, nodal digital center, governmental agencies involved in clearing business proposals should be housed here. It may be useful to rejuvenate the MSE to facilitate arbitration/M&A deals/futures trading. This hub should be within the greater Chennai region, proximate to the airport
Sir,"smart city" should have a well planned CBD. At present Anna Salai, Radhakrishnan Salai are the main areas, with few small peripheral disparate pockets, even these are not optimally utilised. A truly global city should have a well executed efficiently functioning CBD that acts as a financial & business hub with administrative detail too, to make "ease of doing business". To this end not only do these areas need new ideas & rejuvenation but a dedicated new "business area" is needed.
