The current provision of Telecommunication Tariff (46th Amendment) Order, 2008 mandates the Telecom service providers to provide hard copy of bill to its post paid subscribers of mobile and landline service free of cost. However, if any customer opts for receipt of the bill through e-mail, instead of hard copy, the service provider can supply the same after obtaining explicit consent from the subscribers.

TRAI has received representations from the Telecom Service Providers and their associations, MPs and MLAs to review extant provisions of sending printed bills to post paid users of mobile and landline services amid changing mobile usage relating to cutting of trees for paper used in printing phone bills.

However, since consumers form an important segment of stakeholders on this issue, it has therefore, been decided by the Authority to hold a public consultation to have views of all the stakeholders, in the matter so that a holistic approach could be adopted to address this important issue. For TRAI, consumer’s interest remain an issue of prime importance and remains committed to safeguard their interest.

A copy of consultation paper is attached herewith for your kind perusal with a request to offer your valuable feedback on the issue.

For mobile users definitely bills can be sent to their mobile in form of sms so that non smartphone user too can get sms. For land line bills consumers with email or phone , should get bill on phone or email. and the users who are not having phone or email should get a hardcopy.

E-bill is the best way. It reduces the use of paper and also reduces cost and time for the people.

By Dr. Arvind Khandare. #TRAI Create Common Postpaid bill special app. Also create lite app for postpaid mobile users. Use different system for different users. Send bill by sms to non smartphone users. Create website for current bill and storages of last bills. Use Mobile number and OTP for login.

the type of bill i.e. hard or soft should be based on type of payment method. if some one paying online could get a bill in email in pdf format. and those using traditional method, who are unsecured about online payments could have hard bill format. there should be some incentive so that there would be more cash less payments, such like some discount offers to those who use cashless transaction methods.

We can introduce E-bill.Yesterday when i recieved bill of my father's postpaid, iwas thinkng whatbis use of it because i pay bill online,i get the bill earlier than the paperbill. We should lift it.although the class who dont have habbit of paying online need paper bill.but if telecome companies take initiative to"Teach you Customer" about lessusing of papers will definatly be useful.
