There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

Sir/Madam
Please review the policy of MDM. We should find-out the alternative ways to to attract the students to schools and provide benefits to their parents such as:
1. More subsidies through ADHAR
2. More Ration through PDS
3. More Scholarship
4. Provide Milk and Packed food
5. Free dress, books, bags, stationary and other materials to students

Now there is strong demand to supply packed food like. Biscuits, cake, etc, to children in school, instead of cooked food

1- Monitoring and implementations of scheme is easier.
2- It reduce burden from School administration. As food is packed one they are free from any responsibility as far as Mid-Day meal consider. So, they more concentrate on teaching activity.
3-Student can get hygienic food
4-Government have fewer burdens financially because they don’t have to pay cook-cum-helper.

All the middle men are eating the funds and cheap quality of food with unhygienic conditions is provided to children. There are several cases of such food poisoning etc.

Instead some other direct credit to accounts through Aadhar cards can be good substitute.

midday meal is just a formality, which is done by the government. it is truly very harmful to the children. I personally thought that it should be stopped… or alternative ways should be find to help poor and attract more children to Vidyalayas.
I feel this scheme should be changed and the amount be given to the family so that they can atleast eat a good quality food not the type of food now provided.

Can we develop a system of 'Holistic Health' for school children? MDM has been a success but can we go one step further? To improve the nutritional quality of MDM, how about starting community gardens in the school campuses? Monitored by teachers and maintained by students, this would go a long way in providing fruits and vegs in MDM. How about providing mental nutrition - Meditation to improve concentration, field trips to broaden mental horizons, visits by inspiring people for motivation, etc.

I have been trying to make teachers aware of their role in child health. Recently in a teachers meeting at ChotaUdaipur in Gujarat, I suggested to add a column in their monthly report card stating the number of days absent due to health reasons. That should at least bring about awareness in students, their parents and at least class teachers. Only one teacher of the 33 consented and I will come to know only after the school reopens whether they could implement this small change Teachers and Lazy

Upto 10 year children health should be full responsibility of government for all class people and the education too of every citizen.

During the pregnancy, delivery and post natal, we provide a card to mother and child "Jacha Bacha Card/Post Natal Care Card. Can we enhance our School Health Schemes activities for developing such type of student health checkup cards for Primary Student, when they promote for secondary "Availability of this card should mandatory for getting admission then it should follow in higher education. If we store the admission related informatiions why not store health related informations.
