There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

SHRIRAM! It is important to appreciate and conceive the concept of Holistic Health; which is far more complete and NOT the same as WHO's piecemeal definition of health.
Holistic health includes every aspect of individual and social or national life including NAMASMARAN,industrial policy to legislation. For further details you may refer:1. Understanding and Management of Stress, 2. Namasmaran and Superliving and 3 "Conceptual Stress" by Dr. Shriniwas Kashalikar and/or visit www.superliving.net

last week i watched " Akshay Patra" - program based on concept of " common kitchen for MDM in schools. I am very impressed with their management and used of technology for preparing such mass meal for children in schools. most of states in India have successfully running this and I want other states should also implement it in there states. for that central govt. must take initiative and provide required help to states. this can help in terminating ground politics in villages for MDM.

In Fluoride rich areas, the mid day meal scheme should be specific to the problem: more calcium, magnesium, Vit C, Vit D, protein will help overcome the problem. Otherwise we are going to end with mentally retarded and low IQ younger generation.
