The digital space has witnessed major transformations in the last couple of years and as per industry experts would continue to evolve itself. The latest entrant to the digital space is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT can also be defined as interplay for software, telecom and electronic hardware industry and promises to offer tremendous opportunities for many industries.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of connected sensors soon will reach trillions, working with billions of intelligent systems involving in-numerous applications will drive new consumer and business behaviour. The demand for increasingly intelligent industry solutions based on IoT will drive trillions of dollars in opportunity for IT industry and even more for the companies that take advantage of the IoT.

One of the top most initiatives in the form of Digital India Program of the Government which aims at ‘transforming India into digital empowered society and knowledge economy’, is expected to provide the required impetus for development of the IoT industry ecosystem in the country.

Department of Electronics and Information Technology,(DeiTY) has come out with a draft IOT Policy document which focuses on following objectives:

i. To create an IoT industry in India of USD 15 billion by 2020. It has been assumed that India would have a share of 5-6% of global IoT industry.

ii. To undertake capacity development (Human & Technology) for IoT specific skill-sets for domestic and international markets.

iii. To undertake Research & development for all the assisting technologies.

iv. To develop IoT products specific to Indian needs in all possible domains.

The Policy framework of the IoT Policy has been proposed to be implemented via a multi-pillar approach. The approach comprises of five vertical pillars (Demonstration Centres, Capacity Building & Incubation, R&D and Innovation, Incentives and Engagements, Human Resource Development) and 2 horizontal supports (Standards & Governance structure).

When Shri Modi became the PM of India - this website was initiated, I had made some recommendations on a few subjects - What happened to those suggestions, I do not know, now I see this website with a new look and feel minus what I had written - yes we would like to contribute, but the way its been done its typical Indian style, not Mr. Modi style unless that happens I would rather wait and see what is being done, though I am not happy about it. Regards for PM Modi.

1. Security & privacy is a must to go for "IOT" initiative. 2. The current national average internet speed is 2 Mbps which should be upgraded to atleast 22 Mbps and keep in upgrading year after year to realize the IOT initiative. 3. New economical products will be launched with the help of private players which will make digitally connected homes, offices, cities etc. 4. A National Information Grid should be constructed to maintain the citizen records.

In IOT of things policy necessary law may be their which prevents manufacturers from controlling devises or disabling devices in unauthorized manner. Similarly power companies should have some legal authority to control the devices in view of grid load.Priority for use of smart devices and their authorised control may be properly defined. Powerline communication devices and systems are already available and the power companies can control devices attached to power source.

IOT is next big thing in the world of technology & in the next five years it will cover global markets.According to me IOT has got lots of ideas and implementation to do.To build IOT based applications & equipment in India first of all govt. should call for ideas on IOT from the aspiring innovators. Then those ideas should be well mentored & funded so that they can go ahead for prototype & then production. The ideas welcomed should be solution to the problems we are facing in our day to day life.

5. Incorporation of space platforms for envisaged second and third stage be explored and more so where structures have wider dispersion and accentuated density of things and technology. 6. Need to import internationally available IoT structure and operating protocols in different fields after time-cost-outcome analysis mandated by emergent deployment vis- a- vis time lag owing to coming up of indigenous IoT effort in technology and structures be also considered. , Regards.

3. With emphasis on ‘data to service citizens and citizens as sensors’ how citizens are co-opted- integrated without phones, tablets, PC (as common IT platforms are not part of IoT) need enumeration. 4. IoT need elucidation in other government policy documents where planned for incorporation. Further as IoT paradigm is likely to be Center directed, operated, co-operation-co-ordination with states for deployment, integration among other factors also need consideration.
