Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

A blanket ban should be imposed on usage of Polythene bags and bottles, these bags constitute a major component in pollution, today rivers and seas are congested with polythene bags and bottles, marine lives is endangered by use of polythene and even city sewage system is affected, polythene causes cancer.the government should take initiative in banning polythene bases bags, bottles and food containers, and replace them by paper, clothing and glass/fiber glass based items,it will bear fruits later

I am from tamilnadu. For centuries, we have been using only cloth bags for buying solid items. And we usually carry tiffin carriers or related utensils if we buy liquid items from our own home. This is how we lived healthier even 10 years back. Also, what is there in punishing the citizens who are using. If you ban manufacturing of plastics, how will the citizens use it. Kindly consider it.

i think process for collection of fine for illegal manu.of plastic  should be improved and govt shall charge heavy duty....if govt collects heavy duty or fine efficiently ; illegal producers will turn down their illegal production.

In market government fines to all people who uses plastic carry bags but not to company who manufacture its. If we stop production of plastic bags problem will be solved automatically. Hope so its a easy solution to avoid plastic waste management issue.

make use of cloth and paper bag a trend or fasion.create an atmosphere that use of plasticplastic bags is outdated. Youngster will automatically start using papaer or clth bag. Though it will not eliminate the problem but will definately reduce it. This measure will take time but will have along impact. Also will create self emplyoment to many handicrafts man. You cant force someone bit u can bring chnge by changing their thinking or mentality.we can use social media,tv shows etc to create trend

Hi,
I think the tax for plastic manufacturing and distribution be increased and simultaneously tax on the alternative be reduced. Also, some celebrity campaigning on line with swatch bharat would help

Kindly ask all the panchayats/municipalities/corporations to instruct their staff NOT to burn the collected wastes in public places.Let them use it as manures or should dug pits and cover it with the wastes.
Plastic must be banned as it is eaten by animals/fishes and becoming poison and finally landing in our food itself and becoming poison.
