Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Dear Sir,
Plastic bag production has to be stopped. Then Jute bag has to be promoted and R &D centre must provide good jute bag.

Dear Sir, As a first step, ask all retail outlets, shopping malls to use only jute bags and remove all levies, taxes on jute bags so that cost will come down and more people, retailers incline to use it.

Promote the use of jute bags in all your state government advertisements.
Organise a #selfiewithJuteBag contest to promote aggressively. #PlasticCarryBags,#Chandigarh

Plastic is a wonderful item. Nothing can replace it for use on a air tight, water proof container for liquids like milk, juice etc.
it is not bad but its careless disposal is bad. if it is collected after use and disposed properly, there will be no problem. instead of banning it authorities must force users to deposit it in big containers and disposed either by recycling it or burning. Britain recycle it and German burn it. We must diffentiate in an item being bad or not properly dealt.

sir,There must be a minister for recycling wastes in centre as well as in all states.because the matter of disposing wastes is so serious.,besides getting profit from wastes, including plastic wastes. I once saw in Discovery channel that in western countries they make Railway sleeper beds by making use of waste plastics. I have many innovative ideas in this field. This coloumn of space is so small to discuss all!

We need to ban the manufacturing of machineries that would manufacture less microns virgin plastic bags. Out citizens are ready to pay money for the plastic bags rather than carrying them. You can watch the same thing in the mall that they are ready to pay ₹ 5 per bag. We need an attitudinal change from each citizen.

my suggestion is that we must ask plastic manufacturers to make thick plastic bags like milk sachets . This way the rag pickers will pick it up as it will be reusable.
Now the plastic it not picked up as it is micro thin in grams weight it is not reusable. Ask all people to buy the bags at every spot they use. its a win win situation for both sides
