India has a long tradition of excellence in making handloom products with extraordinary skills and craftsmanship. 44 lakh weavers are engaged in this activity, out of which 78% are ...
Some of the more successful retailers such as Nallis from the South India can bring their expertise in helping set up exhibitions in real time with the makers showing off their products. The more niche the product the better the pricing capability and this unified face can then use this mantle to sell and even train interested students in making the products thus ensuring long term survival of the business. Products like Kantha Silk, Chikaankari and many others need to survive and thrive.
We need a central unified face for this. Something in the lines of what co-optex once was but a renewed face that acts as a one stop shop for makers of Indian handlooms.
For example, the body should be funded from the sales of the products as a percentage of the total sales also the final maker of the product should be clearly identified with a name and even a specific identification such as terroir as used by WTO for some products.
The structure can be a mix of online and offline model.
Exclusive fashion shows could be organized to promote the clothing & dress material of Indian handlooms brand
A separate clothing segment of Indian handlooms should be dedicated to the production of clothes for urban youth. High quality “Denim” could be produced for making Jeans, commonly popular attire among young generation. A variety of Denim Shirts, Kurtas & handbags etc. can be made out of it. The suggested brand name could be “Kabir” or “Inden”.
- Indian products quality should match with quality standard of formal/informal dresses offered by different MNC firms
- Provide heavy discounts as compared to MNC products and try to sell them online to keep good profit.
- Try to advertise them under Savdeshi Brand. I would love If i can get a khadi kurta on a discounted price or something else.
- Try to promote Savdeshi by popular Hero's like Ajay devegan, Respected PM and many more celebrities
-Give heavy margins to Cloth dealers/sellers
Make a one ecommerce website for handlooms and sell products from this website. It will help to enhance handlooms business. Make four location warehouse like delhi, mumbai, kolkata and bangalore. Cross sell products to other various marketplace website in india and outside of india.
Similar to MSP in agriculture, MSP is to be fixed to handlooms also. Publicity is an important task to raise the share of handloom market. Increase the diversity in the manufacturing process knowing the trend of the day. Increase the skill of labour in the production. Onlinise the details of products, prepare a website for this purpose, if necessary. Grading should be given to them and any deviation from the original quality should be viewed seriously. Provide credit facility to the needy.
quality should be given topmost priority rather than focussing on quantity.once it is ensured ...people will start believing .advertisement can be a great help .
most important thing is to make an awareness among people through every possible mean like television, radios, internet etc.we can advertise through these communication sources.in addition to this a separate logo should be made to promote indian products.we can launch a brand to promote indian goods .
Take help of Bollywood.......just contact movie story writer + movie makers and tell tell them to add Indian hand loom a Quality product and status symbol to buy it ..........like they promoted wine and cigarette and a very big number of our Indian public drinking wine...............
