India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the ...
REDUCE EXPORTS OF THESE FRUITS/VEGETABLES. FIRST MEET THE DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION. EXPORT OF THESE ARE GOOD ONLY TO THE MIDDLEMEN BUT NOT FARMERS WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO GET THE SATISFACTORY RETURNS. THE MIDDLEMEN ARE BENEFITING AT THE COST OF FARMERS.
To reduce post-harvest loses in supply chain of fruits & vegetables, there many measures. Among them some are as follows:- a) storage houses adjacent to concerned village should be made.b) Government should recruit a unemployed person to asset the data of unsold product and then administration should buy the fruits and vegetables in cheep price and store it in the concerned storage house. c) The storage products then can distribute across the country as per as demand.
THE ROLE OF MIDDLEMEN SHOULD BE REMOVED FIRST. THEY ARE THE PRIME CULPRITS WHO EXPLOITS THE WEAK BARGAINING POWER OF FARMERS. MARKET YARDS, RYOT BAZARS ETC., FACILITIES SHOULD BE INITIATED BY THE GOVT., ITSELF. STORAGE FACILITIES SHOULD BE PROVIDED AT RURAL AREAS. WHEN MIDDLEMEN ARE DOING IN PROFITABLE MANNER, WHY GOVT., UNDERTAKE THE MEASURES TO FACILITATE THE FARMERS.
The middlemen doing business of traders are cheats. For making profits they mislead the producers and consumers. their assets should be verified and confiscated.
Transport of such perishable should be in trucks with freezers. It should be arranged by government in PPP mode.Huge profiteering should be punished .
farmers should get minimum procurement price at the point of sale and further future profit after storage and sale in time of shortage.middleman should not get lion's share.
Exploitation of farmers by traders must become a punishable offence.
Each perishable vegetable grower must not grow ten verieties and rightly Odisha government is now encouraging potato production. . potato is required daily in each house avoid .Potato growing area must grow potato alone in large scale.
Suppose each village grows tomato in winter, the storage should be meant for tomato.Processing industries in that area should be for tomato sauce. Multiple vegetables should be avoided.
Each village should become a part of one zone of that area. Each ten villages should produce similar vegetables inn each season.so that storage tempetures is well maintained and damage in cold storage is minimised.
