How to reduce post-harvest losses in supply chain of fruits & vegetables?

Start Date :

India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the ...
why post harvest looses happen in supply chain of fruits and vegitables
* production is greater then demand bad storage..
* fruits and vegi cant be stored for too long
* looses in transportation
* other looses that i frankly dont know......if u wish
see the next comment
#PRODUCTION IS GREATER THEN DEMAND
cant we forecast that this time this coli flower is going to have this much demand and cabbage is going to have this demand...
then we will go to a farmer nd say him hey dude tel me what u r going to grow nd we will calculate his production potential....
then we will go to next framer and say him brother dont grow colli flowers this time....we are above our estimate...check any other vegi from the list...
if u wish see next comment...:)
#storage
i insist we should have storage companies using our PPP model......just privatize storage.....there are some issues but it will surely increase our storage capacities.......
if u wish read next comment
#transport looses
there is a problem in my first suggestion...... we should not create zones for particular crop as it will increase transportation cost for each zone in getting crops which are not grown in that zone.....we need to create each zone self sustained.....it will automatically reduce looses in transportation.....geography is a factor but in those cases transportation has to be done to other zone...
and railways are best to save fruits from jerk they face in trucks.....
Government should provide transport at subsidised rate in PPP mode so that farmers can transport 70% of their produce to urban places to get competitive price. Farmers should not be allowed pack up 100% produce to towns. They must sale 30% in rural markets or at place of production at low prices for villagers.
To reduce the wastage of fruits& vegetables , firstly we should better the road linkage and transportation system.. We should also uses cold storage trucks for this which is very few in our country..
Then secondly we should make cold storage or storage system for food.. Thus can reduce the cost of fruits and vegetables in retail market and its direct profit the consumer, farmer and gov..
It improve the living of civilians and the healthcare cost of gov. Will be reduced.
by provding better transport facilities and cold storage faclities.
Cold storage should be opened in every tehsil or one in each ten panchayat to preserve fruits and vegetables.this will prevent loss to farmers.
Low cost equipments should be used and maximum manpower must be utilized in this industry.
agar har tahsil me kam se kam ek cold storage rahega to pas ke sabhi ganv k log usme apna fruits aor vegetables rakh sakenge aor rate bhi nahi badhega kabhi jada aor market me har samay vegetable aor fruits available rahegi
