India is the World’s second largest producer of Fruits & Vegetables. However, the processing of perishable products in our country is very low, in comparison to the ...
Hi, i have some ideas but don't know if the space would be enough here
1. We spend so much to reach out to our villages through roads but can also plant fruit tree saplings on the side of these roads which will increase the produce manifold.
2. Use village areas to set up medium\large sized deep freezing spaces. Share a part of the produce with villagers which will uplift their dietary nutrition and sell the rest in the nearby city\town markets. Make a village trust to use this money for them
Farmers are the best technocrat themselves. Explore the indigenous and old age practises and revive them in each village. For major growing area where produce come in bulk quantity, involve expertise and private players like pepsi,ITC, Coco cola, Walmart and many more in corporate farming concept. The major challenge is to gain the faith of farmers in these players. This could only possible if farmers have their own group in SHG form, so their direct participant build confidence on them.
to reduce post harvest loss of fruits and vegetables first we need to establish food & vegetable clusters where we can build up processing center and cold storage centers. we need to arrange better facilities for movement of food and vegetables from agriculture field to these centers and from these centers to local markets and also to other parts of the country.
Create a alternative market apart from existing APMC & other Mandi in India. Because farmers should more options to sell their products. In Karnataka govt with 50:50 joint venture between Karnataka govt & NCDEX Created a company call Rems(Rastriya E market services Ltd) but they are using existing infrastructure developed by APMC. I can't understand how will farmers benefit from this. I think they should create their own market & there should be competition among old & new age markets. Plz look.
The recently announced budget does not have any incentive for such an important aspect of our economy. It is well known that most of the farm produce either losses its economic value and nutritional value due to lagging warehousing and supply chain solutions. This can also be a great source of income earning opportunity if guidelines on how to execute supply chain and regulated warehousing policies are made. Unfortunately, the government seems to be more concerned about stopping cow slaughteretc
People are not buying fruits because of the exorbitant prices. It there is system to have a fixed price for fruits per season and there is commitment from consumers for a season, the fruits can be delivered to the consumer directly without delay and waste of resources and fruits.
Allow farmers to sell vegetables and fruits directly in the market. There should not be intermidiate for sell of vegetables & fruits. its ok for foodgrains that we have market yard for that , as it require at the time of drought and other calimities. In every city, Market should be form with nominal rent to farmers. Market shall be facilated with all necessary requirements
Allow NRIs to invest and engage in rural India. There are many who would like to return back and engage in agri activities. Similar to IT and technology, I am certain that NRIs can bring innovative ideas and investments to the benefit of INDIA and rural population. Please look into the potential of NRIs engagement in rural India. Currently, NRIs are not allowed to buy agri lands and engage in Agri business.
Government should run a leasing scheme for small trucks (TATA Ace). In areas relatively close to cities, during harvest, farmers can rent for day and set up "farmers markets" at designated locations.this reduces dependance on the middle man and provides a sales channel for farmers.
Another option instead of investing in expensive fridges and chillers is to dehydrate all vegetables. This is much easier through solar and as we are in a tropical country , more feasible then freezing vegetables. Further, sun dried tomatoes, raisins are value adds which fetch international prices .
