Dear Friends, as far as my understanding is concerned, SMART CITY does not mean concrete jungle or High rise buildings in the city. It is about building a sustainable City with basic infrastructures provided to the citizens...it's about inclusive growth. There should be room for Urban poor in the form of affordable housing, employment generation etc. Emphasis should also be given to good governance and citizens consultation. In short a smart city would be a Green, Clean, Safe and Livable city.

I am P A cariappa, " Smart city" " Imphal", is ranked 23 fast track cities
is wonderful and great, but for me " Smart city only become when people of that region, understand the following concept.
1)Quality Education
2)Employment for every youth.
3)Road, Transportation, Electricity, should be proper.
4)Rain water harvesting.
5)Waste management.
6)Crime free zone.
7)Traffic management.

This phrase of smart city scares me ! As much as a poor man feelings when he stands in front of a 3 star hotel reluctant to go inside looking at the shear magnitude of scale, formal people, guards, money in every approach!
All cities have a very strong identify, what will happen to that...where will we draw a thin line between the art, flora and fauna of the city as stated in our Constitution also! Will all cities at the end of 2020 look the same as much as the similie seen in the numeric 2020!

I am happy to see that city from North East have been chosen to convert into Smart city. I have felt that North east states haven't progressed much as in other parts of country. people of Imphal should come forward and tell us how they dream to be Smart city citizens. fast Internet connectivity and better roads OR Transportation are the two prime areas that I could think of. these will help to strenthen education and health sectoe much faster.
