Increasing non-fare revenue for Indian Railways

Start Date :
Jun 14, 2016
Last Date :
Jan 01, 2017
00:00 AM IST (GMT +5.30 Hrs)
Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world ...
strategy of indian rail must be that it must decrease the fare of GL,SL SS classes so that those passengers could afford the fare and would not travel without tickets....should increase fares of 1a/c,2a/c for richer class so IR gets compensated with poor class...and should decrease fares of frieghts taking place under the domestic state...so every one can take advantage of rail transport....this way the IR can earn revenue.
increasing revenue is good though but before taking any decision regarding revenue expansion IR should take certain aspects that in which field revenue should increase in which not? means as we can observe that passengers revenue is less compared to freight revenue....in case of passenger revenue there r various passenger who don't take ticket in general class(besause they cannot not afford ticket fare i.e low standerd of living) which is not good for country reputation. T.B.Cont....
1. Put solar panels on all covered areas in platforms and cover more area to provide shadow and shelter.
2. Innovate on covering train roofs with solar panels.
3. Like rail neer introduce more products with private good food making partners.
4. All packaged food products sold in platforms/trains should be specially made/packed for irctc, only these products can be sold, let irctc earn royalty on this
Respected Sir#Indian Railway,
Note the below points-
1. Advertisment TV in special train coaches.
2. Instead of either appointing one contractor only or from railways itself for cleaning the trains and all, advertise about it on every station and give it to a private company in every district railway zone.
3. Paid internet service in trains.
4. Paid Internships for students at UG level regarding both tech and management works.
5. One cinema theatre coach for long journey passengers.
1.Like in airlines/buses accommodate many people in less space by providing more comfort. Comforts like good push back seats, audio, video, food, clean and happy environment. Business will improve automatically.
2. Tap on to peak hours in morning and evening, run nearby city interconnecting trains instead of long distance trains occupying this timeslot.
3. Instead of passes allow no. Of travel based concession in %. Introduce prepaid card for this and more machines to deliver tickets.
There are huge percentage of passengers from lower class or lower middle class who visit different cities in search of job or other personal work where they lack budget accommodation/Guest House/Hotel!
RAILWAY SHOULD ALSO CONSIDER THEIR AMENITIES/REQUIREMENTS! FOR RICHER SECTION RAILWAY ALREADY HAVE HOTELS BY ITS SUBSIDIARY ICRTC.
Every railway station has unused land space, based on the need of the local area, we can utilize the land and generate revenue,Forexample : In metro city like chennai nearby station Perambur, ambattur We have unused land space, here we can generate rent revenue through building shoppping complex and Trade centre For selfhelp group, As it is an opportunity for local train vendors to enhance their small scale business. If it is a village we can build cold storage plant which is needed for farmers
1. Lot of space at railway station convert to parking space. Systematically make more money out of it instead of lending it once.
2. While traveling we carve for food, tap on to it allow more private firms to compete within train and on platforms.
3. Like in airlines can video and audio service be provided? Accordingly can be charged and same system can be used for ads and announcements. It's one time investment and continue revenue model. This attracts high class ppl too.

There can be many ways :
1. Try to assess land under Indian Railways and maintain its record digitally, so that these lands can be used efficiently (can be rented to shops, malls, dairy farms, etc.)
2. Give a compulsory choice for paying for food on train using digital means and provide a digital bill. This can eradicate a vast amount of black money going to these vendors.
3. You may try to incorporate advertisements on Railway Bogies, on the lines of Delhi Metro.
