Increasing non-fare revenue for Indian Railways

Start Date :
Jun 14, 2016
Last Date :
Jan 01, 2017

Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world ...
Besides too much efforts, good food, quality v/s prices, is still major concern in trains. Allow women registered cooperative societies to cater in coaches as well as over railway stations with revenue sharing model.
Sir compare to the facilities given in train already the price is to high so increasing fare will not be the way to raise revenue.
We can use railway premises which is idle for long in the city areas.i am citing a example of katihar railway station of Bihar,it has large premise in which railway can provide pre-fabricated small shops for gaining non-fare revenue..if a small shop is charged mere 2000rs per month and if railway has 50 shops of such type then railway can gain 12 lacks per year and i hope it can play a bigger role if railway may identify atleast 500 railway stations of such type
1. invite sponsorship of key railway stations like Howrah, Allahabad, Chennai etc. Sponsor will completely redecorate the station
2. advertisement in e-ticket
3. Introduce in train entertainment like Rajdhani in all routes including local trains and invite for ad
4. Identify spaces inside the coaches for advertisement
5. Invite sponsorship to build/re-design entry gates of all stations
6. let yellow-black cement structure that displays name of the station in each platform be sponsor
1)Fix up prepaid porterage with a token fees to be levied for service. 1a)Allow self service, trolleys for nominal fees of Rs.10/use. 2)Introduce 'Regular Traveler' Card for nominal charge with provision added benefits like News Paper of choice, preference in rest room/waiting room, concession in porter fees. 3) Monitor the luggage weight by contracted labor and levy extra charge for extra weight 4) Give for rental of Pillow and blanket for 2nd Sleeper passenger for long distance traveler.
Railways have lots of unused Railways tracks, Land, wagons, poles and many other goods. Get an audit done of such items. The unused metal can be recycled or at least sold as scrap. It will generate a huge income. If the tracks are removed the same land can be leased for cultivation or commercial spaces can be built. Also the space above the stations can be utilized and commercial spaces can be developed like we already have in Vashi, Belapur stations in Navi Mumbai. Rent those spaces.
There are many scenic beautiful places on which the trains give very little time for the travelers to see. The places like water falls(In Goa, Lonavla), Back waters of Kerala etc are beautiful places desired by tourists for visits. A special siding with facility for disembarking and short stay of tourists can be provided at such places. This will benefit tourism, railways and state government.
Hi, Few suggestions:
a. Allow advertisements on the wall of the coaches, inside and outside (like metro train)
b. Use railway stations and railway property to deploy solar cells and generate electricity.
c. Build new subways above and below railway lines and charge toll fees
d. Build shops and offices and lease them.
e. Separate baggage charges beyond certain limit
f. Allow people to exchange tickets (even non relatives), and take a surcharge fee on the same.
Thanks
1) Indian Railway should recovered all the land from illegal possession and use the land in favour of the Railway development purpose.
2) System of the checking of the "Ticket of Passengers or of vendor wages" must be change and strictly follow to improvement of the income.
stop giving free railway boucher to members of parliament and railway staff and govt.servants.lay new railway lines where it is not available.
