Complex methodology may reduce transparency.
Base-year change may affect comparability with old series.
Imputed values (e.g., government services) depend on assumptions.
3)Critical Recommendations

What I see as useful / promising in the proposed improvements
1. Use of newer data sources for better coverage & granularity
According to MoSPI’s own release, the new series (base FY 2022-23) will sharpen the estimation of Gross Value Added (GVA) especially for large private businesses in the Non-Financial Private Corporations (NFPC) sector.
This reflects a broader trend worldwide: many countries are trying to incorporate administrative data, tax data, business registries, and more up-to-date sources rather than relying solely on periodic surveys.

respected sir/ madam 🙏 🙏,
1. Need for Methodological Improvement
India’s economy is expanding and diversifying, with rapid growth in the digital economy, informal sector activities, and new service industries. The existing methods of data collection and estimation sometimes face delays, incompleteness, or outdated benchmarks. Therefore, the paper’s proposal to modernize methods is timely and necessary.
2. Strengthening the Production Approach
The production approach benefits from more accurate measurement of the value added in each sector. Improvement areas include:
Better coverage of unorganized and informal sectors through periodic surveys
Use of GST data to capture production trends more realistically
Sector-specific benchmarking to reduce estimation errors
Incorporating remote-sensing and digital data sources (e.g., for agriculture, mining, construction)
These steps will increase the precision of Gross Value Added (GVA) across industries.
THANK YOU
