I wish to share my experience of visiting the Pichavaram Mangrove Forests in Tamil Nadu through Mann Ki Baat. Pichavaram is the second-largest mangrove forest in India after the Sundarbans. During my visit, I learned how these mangroves played a crucial role in reducing damage along the coast during the 2004 tsunami, protecting nearby villages. I also learned about mangrove varieties such as Azhayathi and Kandal. Azhayathi helps reduce wave force, while Kandal, with its strong stilt roots, acts as a natural barrier against cyclones and coastal erosion. Together, they provide stronger protection to coastal regions. I was given the opportunity to plant a mangrove seed, which created a deep sense of responsibility towards nature. I felt inspired by the Central Government’s MISHTI initiative under the National Coastal Mission. Through Mann Ki Baat, I humbly request an appeal to the citizens of Bharat to visit places like Pichavaram, experience eco-tourism responsibly.
