Information and communication technology is becoming an important aspect of Agriculture sector. Till now most of IT initiatives by government were focused on website and training. In the current scenario, the mobile phones are becoming effective way of delivering information and this medium has been used by DAC&FW to develop KisanSuvidha Mobile App. The app is designed primarily for farmers keeping their requirements in mind. The app is engineered to provide all information at a common place that a farmer or agriculture stakeholder in agriculture sector may require. On 19th March 2016, app was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister during ‘KrishiUnnatiMela’ in New Delhi. As on today, an approximate 3 lakh active users are using this app. The App is available in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Tamil and Gujarati Language.

The app has very simple interface with focus on providing information on six essential areas of farming:-

1. Weather details
2. Dealers
3. Market Price
4. Plant Protection
5. Agro Advisory
6. Kisan Call Centre (KCC)

The app can be downloaded from Google Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.cdac.bharatd.agriapp and it is also available on mkisan.gov.in

Kisansuvidha is designed as a ‘Single window’ concept which enables farmers to get relevant information with the click of a button. Many more new features are being incorporated into this app so that it becomes more useful for farmers and related stakeholders.

We invite suggestion from all to improve this app further and share other useful apps for farmers.

I feel technology need to increase productivity, a good message i saw "in past a vada (chat items in Tamilnadu) is 10 paise a call in cellular cost 10 rupees now a call cost rs 10 paise and a vada cost 10 rupees" did you want food or call to live?

we are not a machine to increase technologies we are humans need development, use technology only to increase productivity to reduce poverty, think about technologies after all my brothers and sisters had their food in India.

Such apps are not that much useful as most of our farmers are not uneducated and are not aware of this kind of innovation. Instead of this if government will start a program like polio campaign where well informed agriculture scientist will go to villages and meet the farmers and give suggestion then that would give more impact. No doubt that this app based innovation is goood but for the time sake it is not benificial now . we can introduce such things after 5 years.

Such app would not help unless farmer is EDUCATED. I remember and advertisement (Published during 200-2003) where they claimed to educate 40 lakh illiterate people in their native language in 40 odd days. Govt. should study the TCS model and try to replicate it now.

Sir,The Natural Gas from Oil India Ltd should be supplied to the Tea Industry in Assam. There has been an irregular Natural Gas supply to the Tea Industry of Assam.Tea industry should be considered as the basic priority sector in supply of natural gas because the small tea growers are dependent. As well as the Tea Industry of Assam provides a lots of employment therefore the Tea Industry should be considered as the basic priority sectory in terms for supply of Pipe Natural Gas (PNG) by Oil India.

The idea behind spreading knowledge and information to unlearned and illiterate people using the current state of technology is a powerful method to demote or kill one's own native language. The government should focus on starting *at least* 5000 community schools and colleges across the country to promote basic valuable education and literacy when we have 40 crore illiterate people. When will they start even *one* community college? Mobile technology is not going to solve problems.
