Greater Mumbai, the city of dreams, is also part of the Smart City Challenge, commissioned by the Ministry of Urban Development. The focus on making any city smart is to provide better services more efficiently to its citizens at their doorstep. With this view, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai believes that ideas for developing Mumbai into a Smart City should come directly from its citizens. This initiative is part of the comprehensive plan for citizen engagement envisioned by the MCGM. We will also be inviting suggestions via social media, at the level of the wards and on a pan city level.

With a population which is diverse and vibrant in so many ways, the potential to develop the city of Mumbai is limitless. As the pioneer of development and business and a melting pot of cultures, Mumbai is a very good representation of the dynamic culture of India. As a representative, Mumbai has the responsibility of becoming a global example of an efficient and citizen friendly city, through technology and service delivery.

To this purpose, we the MCGM, invite citizen of Mumbai to tell us what they believe should be a part of the Plan to develop Greater Mumbai into a city where every citizen enjoys efficient services and overall quality of life is increased and preserved. We are looking for any ideas, innovations and suggestions that will help us put together a good plan for the smart development of Mumbai.

Smart Cities Challenge - MCGM

Please provide your suggestion and feedback latest by 15th October, 2015.

THE JUHU BEACH PROJECT is a 2 phase inexpensive minimum intervention plan, one that requires zero land acquisition. Phase 1 involves the expansion of Juhu Beach for public use by providing a 325m underpass for vehicular traffic under the Juhu Aerodrome. People get access to 1.5 acres of additional public space. Phase 2 envisions a future 385 Acre Park in lieu of the current Juhu Aerodrome. It would be completely open to the public and cost nothing, all that is needed is a change in use.

The HAJI ALI-MAHALAXMI PROJECT aims to replace the single pedestrian signal and bridge the divide with a 6 acre public park open to the Arabian Sea on the West and to 225 acres of the Racecourse on the East by providing a 700m underpass for vehicular traffic. This would benefit not just the millions who throng the Sea face but also all the visitors to Haji Ali Dargah & Mahalaxmi Temple. This is an inexpensive minimum intervention plan that can be achieved without land acquisition or reclamation.

PM wishedthat domestic air travel should be reachable to the common man also.
Domestic services of Air India has shifted to terminal T2 and
rickshaws are not being allowed on the elevated road to departure.
People travelling from distances normally take rickshaws to reach
domestic flights which is cheaper for a common man who cannot afford
car with drivers or steep fares of taxis,if trvlg alone or two people.
MMRDA says use can encourage smuggling etc.

at present mumbai is very dirty city. before we blame any authority we should improve ourselves. spitting, littering, washing utensils, cars etc on road are extremely bad habits. there are many citizens who are eagar to work for the betterment of the city. govt. should open cell to enlist willing citizens who want to give their time and efforts and give them proper authority to book erring citizens. without the authority we cannot book anyone for creating such nuisance.

1. Roads- we need better roads. Reconstruct from scratch if you have to.
2. Metro- fast construction of metro lines is the need of the hour.
3. Bus connectivity- separate lanes for buses on highways is a must.

4. One commonly accepted card- just like we have a smart card in railways, we need to create a card which can be used on any mode of transport in Mumbai.( like oyster card in London)
5.hawker's and street vendors- create space for them (below flyovers, underground markets, stations)

A city is not smart until it manages its waste well. Waste management process should be decentralised and locality based, quick and real time. It is surprising to note that 70% of waste is organic in nature & can be reprocessed before it becomes waste or, thereafter, can be recycled in a sustainable manner. We have invented a Green Waste Reprocessor machine which re‐process all green reject and converts it into valuable by‐products. More details can be found on www.cleanindiatech.com

There are two additional metro lines coming up in Mumbai which is good news for the future, but it will be hell let loose during the construction phase. How can the authorities encourage commuting by bicycling in Mumbai?
1. Make narrow bicycle lines in both directions in the roads affected by metro construction.
2. Construct bicycle sheds at railway stations in areas affected by metro construction.
3. Popularise cycling with help of celebrities, politicians, activists, if required.
