With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

GST is a wonderful reform but the implementation has not been so good. We are exporters and are still waiting for our approval to come through from the excise department although we have submitted all the required documents on Friday. It does not speak highly of the ease of doing business. Earlier we were exporting for the last 8 years without any bond or LUT. Why the need now. It is frustrating. Shipments are ready but cannot be sent for want of this approval. Terrible.

I am happy to see that most of the businessmens are coming in line with the government instructions after the two major surgeries of the economy by the government through demonetisation of high denomination notes and introducing Goods and Service Tax system in the country.
I hope, next number will be of those government officials who are still following unfair practices in discharging their duties and the next target of the government must focus on such culprits to make India A Great India.

GST is welcome. However, it has flaw in terms of differential taxation of similar goods such as shoes, clothes etc. This may lead to manipulation to pay lower tax. l read in news paper that a shopkeeper sold each shoe of a pair separately to avoid higher rate of tax. Underbilling can be done in clothes also to avoid higher tax. I suggest to categarise such products as branded/non branded for differential taxation. Some branded goods may be cheaper than general the buyer must pay for status

Gst is good & we welcome it , but the tax fully is going to politicians only in name of fund release for various programs. The politician & officers getting bribe and doing work with low quality. We need good road , water , good drainage mainly. By this GST & online transaction shall we think those things will happen ?? And we r happy & ready to pay tax

Secondly sir my viewpoint is that tax evasion had been in the country since it was launched after independence so much so that it has come to the DNA of this generation, doing buisness or Govt.servants taking bribe supported by politicians for years together. The ultimate sufferer is the poor person who had been exploited for generations and remains poor till today.Past Govt.did'nt have the willpower to bring such system of Governance. My best wishes for the success of GST andcongratulations
