With the GST coming into effect from 1st July, 2017, the biggest indirect tax reform of independent India, is going to transform the way indirect tax is administered in this country, impacting not just businesses but also the common man. GST is a tax on consumption of goods and services, which is levied at all stages right from manufacturing up to final consumption, with credit of taxes paid at previous stages available as setoff. It is going to remove the tax-on-tax effect through separate Central and State tax laws. In a nutshell, under GST, only value addition will be taxed , hence, reducing the burden of tax to be borne by the final consumer.

The most fundamental change in GST besides the consolidation of multiple taxes, is the use of a robust shared IT infrastructure in its operations. All the forms related to registrations, filing returns and other related activities can now be done through the GSTN Portal.

GST will help build an economically stronger India, with 'One Nation, One Tax, One Market.'

Small trader say having Rs.20 Lakhs turnover in a year, having interstate purchase stock say 2 Lakhs on appointed date, selling goods in his home state only, earlier regular VAT dealer and now provisionally migrated want to switch to Composition scheme , why he is not allowed ? How he is not a small dealer? If stock in hand is concern, then he should be allowed to pay GST on reverse charge on his existing stock.

To be fair to both tax payer and government, money should have same value during the taxation period. Devaluation and inflation erode net hard earned earnings for common man.

Respected Sir, many self styled experts in media/newsprint proclaim that this is low inflation period. but on ground retail vegetable prices have gone up from 10 rs for 250 gm to 20 rs per 250 gm in past six months.
I do not understand basis for conclusion in media that this is low inflation period.
Kindly weed out dual agents (business + political) who collect indirect commissions/revenue by means of price escalation at nodal points.

One of the objective of GST is to ensure that there is no additional cost of indirect tax to businessman and tax is recovered from end customer. However, reverse charge increases administrative cost. Hence should be levied selectively. Professionals render service in residential colony taking part premise. Hence, reverse charge should not be applicable on rent or value of rent per month should be moderated say Rs 50th or more for attracting reverse charge liability.
