Poor science and maths education (and English) accounts for 80 per cent of total students who fail in Tenth Board Examination. The low enrolment in science stream at higher secondary level and poor-quality education is a constraint in development of scientific manpower in the country. Science and Maths education would need special attention. We need to deliberate and find workable strategies for strengthening the quality of teaching–learning processes for better outcomes; innovations and diversity of approaches in matters of curricula, pedagogies and use of technology to improve the learning levels.

Teaching of Science must be through activities. In a classroom the terms/laws of science are explained in relating them with real experience of a student in his/her day to day life

The B.Ed curriculum exposes the pre service teachers to the Pedagogy theories and provides trainee teachers with practical classroom experience. It is based on the premise, that, all teacher students have the pre requisite subject domain knowledge. In practice however, most pre service teachers fall short of the requisite expertise in their subject domains. Very often teachers, teach subjects that they have studied in college. http://www.rubrix.foundation/program-for-BEd-students

Sirs,
Since every child is unique measuring them through a single examination system is like measuring liquid, gases and solids using a single ruler. Introduce online examination system wherein the system will draw requisite number of questions from a pre-set question bank for each candidate. Also declare exam season say January-March. Candidates can attempt a max of 3 times with in the period and the highest score will be considered. This will free students from the exam fear. Thanks

I was going through the recent ASER 2014 Report released by the NGO Pratham and was aghast looking at the state of Maths Education in the country. According to the report in 2014 only 26.3% of std III children could do a two digit subtraction.Only 26.1% of children in Std V could do division. And in 2014 only 44.1% in std VIII could do a three digit by one digit division problem.
