Poor science and maths education (and English) accounts for 80 per cent of total students who fail in Tenth Board Examination. The low enrolment in science stream at higher ...
I studied when most of the teachers in the classrooms were passionate about their job and their subjects. They led simpler lives- none of us had fancy homes or things in them- many of us had no furniture- no beds- simple rush mats on the floor. But we believed in learning about the world all around. With simple examples of filling water in a bucket, we derived equations for liquid columns and wavelengths. Math is the language of the sciences. Translating scientific ideas to equations is the way
I think that the way I was taught Science and Math in India was simply the best way- I studied in 6 different schools (5 in Tamil Nadu and 1 in Delhi) and across the board had passionate teachers who taught us science through experiments and common sense and Math (that was a mixed bag- had some bad teachers there who couldn't explain why (a+b)^2 was a^2+b^2+2ab (where did the 2ab come from?!)- typical of a 12 yr old to ask but no answer. Visulaization of Math and practicals in Science- a must
We must encourage seniors above class 8 to teach juniors atleast once a week giving extra period in schedule.
More and more use of technology should be made in schools and Universities. An effort should be made to create a network of all the schools and Universities, so that one institution can make use of resources available in another. One school can learn form another school, one university form another University, One School can learn from University or college and vice versa. Students and Teachers at various levels of schools and colleges should be able to collaborate. This will give new ideas.
If we find way to address the problems of a family profession through education system like if I am from a farmer's family then I should have given knowledge about scientific way of farming. etc.
It should be such that it generates new scirntific thinking thinkers not only rememberable and coping learners.
Most of the students don't remember what they studied(CONCEPTS) in the previous year . As these concepts need to be applied on the next year syllabus, students will find it difficult to follow the subjects, thereby losing concentration and interest in it. So important concepts of previous year syllabus must be compressed and put it as introduction part in first few chapters of new syllabus. Exams on this will make him refer previous year books, strong in the concepts and develop interest in it
Learning science should be more practical than theoretical. Now a days science is getting confined to books only.
Several competitions involving innovative inventions should be introduced in the curriculum.
The aim of edication is not attendance but retention, and the best retention is through Practicals.
Now with the grading system in place, we should put Huge emphasis on practicals including sports.
Education should be such that a student, if he is good in sports, can go for it without worrying of failing and ruining his/her life.
Industries (small scale, as well as large scale) and colleges must be roped in to provide training to school students.
