A multi-lingual society recognises the importance of education in languages. While there are some interventions for appointment of language teachers and promotion of classical languages, there is no comprehensive scheme or language policy and we need to have inputs on this dimension.

and will require applying what they have learnt in their textbooks to solve a problem. An example would give a clearer picture here. Suppose a locality in Delhi faces shortage of water. A set of students analyze its economic consequences. Another group of students analyse the biological significance and its effect on environment. Similarly, other groups analyse geographic reasons for shortage, political influences and solutions, etc. and students from grade 9 and grade 10 submit a brief report

. Integrating Performing arts and textbook lessons. Many a times, the pressure to achieve academic excellence overshadows the artistic talents of students. To preserve it, I propose that the chapters, specifically for language subjects with a literature component, be made into short movies/documentaries by students across schools in India in English/Hindi and even in their own native languages. Students from the drama club, music club, computer club, etc. can come together to make shorts videos

All languages/dialects spoken in India and of Indian origin be recognised by the constitution as Indian Languages. Document in devanagri script the literary assets that are there in languages/dialects that don't have a script. Promote Devanagri as a common script for all Indian languages. Recognize the languages of South – Asia, Indo – China and Tibet as languages of Greater Indian Culture. Create experts in Chinese, Arabic, Russian, French, Languages of central Asia and Japanese.

Languages are our cultural assets that need to be put into proper perspective for effective utilization as technologies of communication. Multilingual expertise should be promoted (in two or more Indian languages). University language departments should be merged into multilingual centers. Research should be promoted that relates Sanskrit to Indian Languages or to Link one Indian Language to another. Teaching of Hindi at national level as second/third language should focus on spoken aspect only

local languages like Garhwali are bolibhasha i.e. they do not have a script...and hence are not taught in schools...this precess will hamper growth of these languages...please make some effort to give script (devanagiri) to these languages and introduce them in schools......just a suggestion.

I am amazed after seeing such type of discussion topic. I am a student here in Germany. Language is very powerful tool to preserve our civilization. It preserves countries own identity. We all should respect our language and we must promote our language..We should pass inherent richness of our own language to next generation. In order to being modern, we should not lost our own identity

Instead of teaching so many subjects in the lower classes, give more emphasis to learn more languages. These training must be conducted by native speakers or through multi media prepared by native speakers. Quality of english education is very low in India. This has to be improved. Spanish, Arabic, Sanskrit, Chinese, German shall be introduced in school level.

Rather than mandating languages at examinations as a strategy for their promotion, it would be more helpful to promote a social change. It could be brought about by increasing awareness among parents about advantages of being polyglots, promotion to cultural events and regional films.

My view is languages are natural phenomenon, they are created on their own without deliberate human effort and being a natural occurrance they are subject to evolution. Forcing a language or making policies to exert human will over them is counter productive and ineffective to much degree. It should be left to natural selection. I am talking in a broader sense and definitely not opposed to setting a common language platforms for convinience or language education That's altogether different.
