New Town, Kolkata has been declared as a potential Smart City under the Smart Cities Mission, Government of India. To participate in Round-2 of the challenge of the smart city contest, a Smart City Proposal will be prepared after taking into consideration aspirations, visions, goals and smart solutions (low cost smart solutions, technology based smart solutions etc.) communicated by the citizens of New Town, Kolkata to make it a better place to live. For further details on Smart Cities Mission, citizens may visit the concerned website of Government of India i.e. smartcities.gov.in

Transportation is a big issue in New Town. For the office go-ers who need to travel late, finding the right transport way back home is tough. I hope something is done for that.

The numbers of shops are still less, so if people are in need of water they need to wait till any market area appears. Hence, drinking water posts are needed throughout the Smart Town.

Transport is one of the most difficult things that still need attention. The frequency reduces during weekend. Government needs to think about incorporating Metro in the area for easy transport.

If citizens of New Town can participate in development of the smart city, nothing can be better than that. The inhabitants can explain what steps are necessary for the progress of this part of the city. Moreover, if more job opportunities are offered to people living in this region, the development process will speed up

Now that the Pujo season is well kicked in, I was thinking, can we have an iconic Durga Puja in Rajarhat? The people of Kolkata have their hyped Thakus like Chaltabagan, Deshapriya Prak, Maddox, Ballygunge Sarbojonin, College Square, Labony and so many others... Why can't they say, Newtown er Smart Thakur ta juuust miss kora jabena
