The population of Chandigarh Urban Complex (CUC) comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula has been growing fast at a rate of over 5% per year in the last decade. There has been a phenomenal growth in the population of vehicles as well especially the two and four wheelers in this period and their rising use due to rising household incomes. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in the country. Besides nearby towns are also growing fast and have large traffic interaction with the Chandigarh. In the absence of adequate and quality mass transport system, people are using the personalized modes which is not only leading to congestion on road network but also increasing environmental pollution.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among the Governments of Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh Administration for the formation of Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC) on Thursday for developing a comprehensive integrated multi-modal urban and suburban commuting system for the Union Territory and surrounding areas in the states of Haryana and Punjab. Also the administration has been working to develop cycling tracks all over the city.

However the citizen participation is very much required to frame a integrated and detailed urban mobility plan for “City Beautiful”. So, the Chandigarh Administration hereby invites ideas, views, opinion and suggestions from the residents so that the objective of “Smart Urban Solutions” could be achieved.

This is good step by all three administrations to jointly operate bus system of Chandigarh, but as we imply this system more buses should be running on roads which again increase the traffic of roads although it will increase the passengers using public transport. So we have to provide a good managment for running these buses on road which could be giving proper bus lanes on roads that could be giving last lane or last two lanes(on roads which are three or four lanes) i.e. extreme left lanes.

To lessen the waiting time of the passengers at BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) bus-stand, every bus should be fitted with an RFID tag, which, with the passage of bus from every bus stand, will broadcast the status of bus and which shall be captured by an antenna fitted at every BRTS bus stand. The citizens will be able to view through a mobile app (or a website) as to how far away a particular BRTS bus is from a specific station at a specific time. Works same as Trains Enquiry Mgmt System does.

People using personal cars do not want to ride in public bus. These cars occupy most of road space as occupancy is 1 or 2 people. Create fleet of taxis which will operate like buses & stop at regular bus stops. Taxis could be of different types simple to luxurious, with varying capacity. To popularize these taxis among car users, restrict cars on roads with number plates ending with 1-2 on Monday, 3-4 on Tuesday, etc. This will greatly reduce number of personal cars on roads.

I would like to thank the Chandigarh admin for the seprate cycle lane along all major roads in the city. But, I would like to draw the attention towards the misuse of the same, motorists use these lane to go wrong side of and nither the cyclists use these lane resulting in failure of the plan. There should be strict enforcement of the laws present not only on the motorists but also on the cyclists not using the 'compulsory lane'. This will lead to safety of cyclists and smooth traffic also.

#chandigarh, to get rid of congestion, the traffic during the peak hours can be resolved by shifting the working hours of the work stations in the tricity by a time lag of half an hour. like, 20% of the work stations will start at normal time and 40% each before and after the time at which 20% of work stations are starting. this will reduce traffic density on roads and will increase the traffic flow. and the inconvenience caused due to traffic jams will be reduced. route of every bus with their number and timing should be properly maintained in every bus stop. It is at times very difficult for new persons or even old ones to catch correct bus for desired route. At some bus stop it is written on walls which is barely visible and some don't have any. Bus conductor and driver also behave rudely sometimes.

# Chandigarh Administration should provide the monthly updateabout the frequency of traffic on a particular route(Marg) at particular time. This 'll help people to decide the best rout to destination. Now,while the routes eg.Madhya Marg is overburdened all the day, most of parallel roads are empty. Having information about traffic will help divert traffic from busy to under utilised routes.

Dear Sir, We are facing problems at Nice Ring Road tool junction near Mysore Road in Bangalore. we use it to go to electronic city offices. 1. Just for 23 KM they are charging 90 rs for cars/30 for bikes. 2. Roads are not as per they charge. 3. Tool booths never keep the change while going through, they will give chocolate instead of change. If we ask for change, they wrongly talk and say that you can return the chocolate while coming back. Please help to resolve.
