The population of Chandigarh Urban Complex (CUC) comprising Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula has been growing fast at a rate of over 5% per year in the last decade. There has been a phenomenal growth in the population of vehicles as well especially the two and four wheelers in this period and their rising use due to rising household incomes. Chandigarh has the highest per capita income in the country. Besides nearby towns are also growing fast and have large traffic interaction with the Chandigarh. In the absence of adequate and quality mass transport system, people are using the personalized modes which is not only leading to congestion on road network but also increasing environmental pollution.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed among the Governments of Haryana and Punjab, and Chandigarh Administration for the formation of Greater Chandigarh Transport Corporation (GCTC) on Thursday for developing a comprehensive integrated multi-modal urban and suburban commuting system for the Union Territory and surrounding areas in the states of Haryana and Punjab. Also the administration has been working to develop cycling tracks all over the city.

However the citizen participation is very much required to frame a integrated and detailed urban mobility plan for “City Beautiful”. So, the Chandigarh Administration hereby invites ideas, views, opinion and suggestions from the residents so that the objective of “Smart Urban Solutions” could be achieved.

there should be limit of vehicles that a family can buy. it would help to minimize pollution and reduce traffic which is a major problem. second govt. should provide subsidies on solar panels. it would result in great saving of electricity.

Everybody should use government or private transportation for short or medium distances to travel.we are seeing each person has one individual vehicle two or four wheeler with which CO2 emeission as wells petroleum products are getting waste as we know 46 % of our total purchase goes for crude just by importing this which is a big forex loss to india. So be reponsible citizen to use vehicle optimizely whenever needed. Its a request to government for to have hardcore electric vehicles policy

For the international passengers the name IG airport is too long and confusing. We must revert back to the name Palem , which is musical to pronounce . Ideally it should be named as Delhi airport for international and Palam for domestic. Earliest it is done the better.Naming is branding and most popular words which appropriately describe the airport should be utilized. Thanks and Regards.

build some trams in major traffic areas these trams have to be futuristic. new modern bus service as well as separate bus lanes encourage people to use public transport instead of private vehicles educate people about pollution and this will surely change their mindset. 4 lane roads that have footpaths on each side with crossing should be well planned and implemented.
