Surat Municipal Corporation has prepared draft Smart City Proposal (SCP) as per the guideline of Smart City Mission given by MoUD, Govt. of India. Based on opinion/feedback received during Citizen’s Engagement Round - 1 and Round - 2, Smart City Proposal (Draft) for Surat city includes

1. PAN City proposal based on Smart Solutions for “Transportation-Mobility-Connectivity” in entire city area and;
2. Area based development: Smart solutions in various sectors as“Retrofitting” is selected for 112.28 sq.km.area of Surat city prior to city limit extension in year 2006.

Area based Development plan is way too ambitious. Surat needs to reduce its area for Smart City area development from 112 to downwards of 30 sq.Km. Once implemented successfully for this area, it can be replicated gradually to the rest of the city which is the logic behind this Smart city mission
