Locality map should be available on the station as well as on the website . check website of singpore mrt (city railway metro) which allows for quicker exit and entry. reducing total travel time. Please have a holistic view . its not just about increasing train speed. Its also total time for passenger to travel door to door.
Lot of people suggested in this forum is to be intimated about the train arrival at particular station through mobile. A long distance passenger has to constantly wake up and checkout which station train has reached specially trains running late. It will be very comfortable for passenger to provide the train status so that they sleep comfortably. also there is no proper map and direction for major locality landmarks. People stay on the station longer and crowding it.

To improve the train inquiry system, you have to have a better Communication/ Telecommunication infrastructure. Real time information, trained staff and fixed accountability for misinformation and under performance. TTE must send this availability status from running train from there hand held device, which should be updated after every stoppage of the train. If any WL/RAC ticket holders approaches TTE for accommodation, and if he refuses, he must refuse in writing to the passengers.
When I type the flght number into google it will be imeediately provide the flight status with no further questions. Can this be done to train numbers/names ?
Between 150 km away from major cities,speed of train and wi-fi and cleaning are major issues and should be required immediately action.
and this railway system planning has to b proactive , like seasonal trains holidays or yatras and other holi months , and spc in summer where routes having large number of passengers, need extra bogi , more advance tickets -booking systems and 2 bogi for only ladies in every trains with booking system in it.and kindly put ur best team in ONLINE site . its shows waiting 80 to 100 list & if v pay 200 rs more to agent he gets a confirm ticket for D same train !! HOW ?? is possible
Automated IVR system are already there but this needs to be improved a lot as data are not updated on the fly. SMS search system can also be implemented.
But if we don't update the data on the fly there is no use of such systems as people will only get confused by old and wrong updates given by the enquiry system.
If v can increase the speed of the trains ! there r 3 benefits , save time - save water & power and the dirtyness also , the important thing is speed with safety , indian r not behind 4 bullet train . 100 to 160 kms the trains has to runs in our track that will be do for coming 5 yrs , with time d govt can plans for bullet trains also at coming later part, trains has to connect may b with satilights ,(help of DRDO) alarming system in each bogi 4 security of passengers
