Does driving on super highways sound of death knell? The Cyrus Mistry case, and the recent Rolls Royce case on the Delhi Mumbai highway surely ring warning bells. Over-speeding surely is the first culprit. But, do the superhighways have sudden diversions without advance signages, warnings, & speed-limits? And, worse, provision to make a U-turn on a superhighway! Could there be a proper exit to an overhead slab that facilitates U-turn? 200 Kmph is a killer speed, sure. But, could this accident be avoided even with 120 kmph? NO! Unfortunately, the concerned Ministry just doesn’t understand it. They would resort to symptomatic solutions like enforcing rear seat belts rather than treating the root-cause. 200 kmph is not uncommon though in many parts of the world. Is there something seriously wrong with the design of our highways? Are there proper signages, warnings, speed controls in place before such sudden diversions? Are the supervision mechanisms in place to ensure strict compliance?
