Indian Passport must be aligned to a unique identification no , and biometric records to eliminate duplicate passports. Also , all passport offices must be outsourced to IT vendors so that there is no corruption. All documents must be listed out and passport must be provided.
While vising India, OCI card should be able to use OCI card and need not carry old passport having Indian Visa stamp. very hard for Kids as their passport gets renewed every five years and lot of unnecessary procedures to follow for kids..
Also application forms and instructions should be in sync, lot of time there are contradictions between the two.
When applying for OCI card, there are stringent requirement on photo, and other format. The host country standards should be acceptable for photo otherwise very hard to file the application...
please make passport sevakendras free from agent which is fully captured by them, without of them u cant get any single appointment
There are several issues indian consulate should consider. Even in country like UK, they are painfully slow and non-communicative. They never answer the phone and it is next to impossible to find the email address for the relevant department.
Things I suggest are as follows:
1) Engage with NRIs - consulate should start to respect us! Have clear helpline & email addresses and should have deadline to respond.
2) OCI/PIO system should evolve to proper Dual-Citizenship.
DRIVING LICENSE : I suggest that Indian should be able to exchange their driving license for the country of residence as several other countries like Nepal, Turkey, Thailand can do. Especially Belgium, Netherlands, UK (other European countries), US and Australia.
Regarding Passport SevaKendras. I think that issuing of passport should be dealt by local Muncipalties. This will not only create jobs a local levels but also will make it easier for individuals residing in a locality to apply for new/renew passport in their vicinity.
In my previous post I outlined the problems with respect to issue of PIO/OCI at Indian missions abroad due to conflicting guidelines given at different governemental website. I suggest that a single unfied guidline should be issued and followed by all the Indian mission abroad. Similarly same guidelines should be used by FRRO offices all over India. It should be fairly easy to publish these guidelines on Minitry of External Affair website rathen than on individual missions outside India.
1) Dual citizenship. Many countries allow their citizens dual citizenship. As Indian NRI's don't want to loose their citizen status.
2. Improve quality at Indian High commissions. London high commission does not accept Credit or Debit Card as fees payment and NRI's have to pay in cash. There is no other place in UK where you have to pay such large amount of money in cash! I'm guessing same is true for all other places as well.
3. Outsourcing Visa application: keep Quality check on outsource.
From my personal experience in applying for passport and PIO cards for my family members outside India I can say one thing for sure that the process for applying for new passport and PIO/OCI card needs further streamlining. Currently guidelines on issuing on PIO/OCI card varies and different versions exist on different governmental websites including websites of Indian missions abroad. There should be one set of guideline and one procedure which should be followed all over.
