While each smart city will have distinctive features specific to its location, demography, culture and other such factors, there maybe smart solutions to problems which are common to all cities. This contest seeks to identify such smart and innovative solutions to common problems.
All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
Questions
1. Out of the following 21 smart solutions, select 3 solutions that should be applied to all Indian cities and provide a brief write-up (max. 50 words) to explain why.
2. Describe a ‘smart’ idea that you have seen in some other city(anywhere in the world) that you would like to see replicated in your own city. ‘Smart idea’ means doing more with less.
3. Describe 3 ways that Indian cities can reduce the gap between rich and poor.
4. List out 5 essential facts about your local municipal corporation that should be available to all citizens.
Entry Deadline
• Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015.
Evaluation
The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Do-ability (50%)
• Innovation (50%)
Award
Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts:
Rs. 40,000 - First Prize
Rs. 25,000 - Second Prize

The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot

• All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
• The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only.
• The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less.

Answer 2: Nevada in USA has a very advanced Water Recycling Systems. they get a fixed amount of water each week and have to satisfy their demand within that only. Thus water gets recycled at homes rather than having a centralised system of Water Treatment. This ensures demand at individual level is satisfied.

Q.4] (a) Audited financial documents, with Chartered Accountant changed every 3 years (b) List of works executed in each ward put up in the notice board in the ward (c) Clear set of guidelines for applying for government documents along with fees details(d) separation of submission and person working on it, to reduce corruption (e) Town Plan for next 10 years

All the measures should not be of a charity model but resource and skill development model based as these tend to be more sustainable and are able to give better results even long after the state stops interfering in the matter.
a)Education system:govt. policies to be inclined towards education and not just literacy, cultivate ability to use mind and not to overload it with data.
b)Skill Development Programs & centers
c)Upgrading Labour & employment laws

To reduce the gap between rich and poor there should be seamless public transport (opportunity cost), Transparent access to the government services(opportunity cost), Good education and health care facilities in the government run organisations.

Stockholm, Sweden - Integrated Public transport system: Seamless travel across the city without any car using multiple modes of transport;
Bangalore - Tender SURE way of building roads- Indian cities spend more money on repairing the infrastructure than building new one. Tender SURE makes the infrastructure stays for long

US & Sweden - Mechanized infrastructure building faster building of roads. India does lot of things manual.

Q.1] - (Option 9) Recycling and Reduction of C&D waste - India has one of the biggest ragpickers in the world.
Q.1] - (Option 2) Electronic service delivery - This will reduce the corruption and provide faster services

(18.d)Last mile connectivity - The design of the city should be in such a way that, people have last mile connectivity.
(18.e) Single pass for all kinds of public transport (as in Europe). Metro pass should be usable across buses, trams, suburban train(upto a limit). These passes should be electronic passes.
(18.f) Information about the next transport in the current location, to increase the usage
(18.g) Swadeshi, non-polluting fuel for public transport - Hydrogen/Electrical

3. Suggest 5 ways in which the use of big data can make Indian cities into smart cities.
- Tracking Traffic in real time
- Notified garbage collection system
- Tracking new vs old buildings for preventing building hazards.
- Improved Fire hazard tracking network providing quick relief.
- A 911 type helpline system for addressing citizen's distress
