To generate awareness about the importance of handloom industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, 7th August is celebrated every year as “National Handloom Day”.
August 7 was chosen as the National Handloom Day to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement which was launched on this day in 1905 in the Calcutta Town hall.
The first National Handloom Day was inaugurated on 7th August 2015 by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Centenary Hall of Madras University in Chennai.
Ministry of Textiles in collaborations with MyGov is organizing a contest Designing a Doodle on Handloom. For the same Indian citizens are requested to show their creativity through doodle designing to show their bonding with Indian Handlooms and to support Handloom Sector.
Guidelines for Participation:
1. Create a doodle that reflects the significance of National Handloom Day.
2. Doodles can be submitted in digital or hand-drawn format and should be in PDF format only.
3. This competition is a wonderful opportunity to express your thoughts feelings & bonding through art. Let your doodle be an example of inspiration for the people to use Indian Handloom Products.
