Proper evaluation of cleanliness is a must in these kitchens, especially when children are consuming the food prepared. The report must be objective with actionable points on how to make the kitchens cleaner. You are also welcome to visit a cluster of kitchens in a city or area.
1.You can also help by visiting a mid day kitchen if something bad is found report to food inspector, 2. Using good quality oils 3 Food should be fresh 4 Hygiene around the food 5 Surprise checking on every mid day meal kitchen 6 Clean surface
Mid day programmes need to be improved a lot-
1.Hygiene and quality of food need to be documented and checked by outside agency.
2.Involve children in menu planning in available resources. Instead of using carrot for daily presence use their creative ability.
3.Take help of nutritionist volunteer.
4. The quality, quantity and stock knowledge should be on public domain.Let public have alert eyes on leakage.
5. Beside meal involve children in multi- dimensional engagement i,e beyond food.
Will visit Mid day meal kitchen tomorrow. Already associated with one organisation to streamline kitchen operations for better cleanliness and efficiency. will submit report by 23 August 2014.
Zilla Parishad High school, Ilavaram, Guntur DT.Andhra Pradesh.
Today I visited this school for taking a view on the mid day meals provided in my childhood school. I observed that the meals are quite popular among students and more when egg is provided. Continued since last six years. Vessels and plates are clean which are provided by village donors. No proper outlets for cleaned water hence stinking in some places. Suggested to improve. Training of cooks in clean and neat service reqd.
Have attached the survey in pdf format.
The survey is in the form of questions and answers.

I had visited Primary Pathshala dharmadevi In my village Amethi district. The condition there was not so god but OK type..I came to know that Children itself bring plate from home..there were No system for fire safety in emergency..I think there should be a rule for the parents that they have to come to school any day to ensure the quality of food, cleanliness system etc.and it should be necessary for every parents.we can put a criteria that they must visit school twice in a month
The Akshay pathra programme conducting by iskcon temple is doing a great job in mid day meals to school children. the central government must adopt this kind of programme and should apply that in whole india. and it must make sure that it will not compromise in quality of food.
Visited the Mid Day schools and here are the findings:
1. Procurement of food staples is the biggest problem, with complex procedure of supply for raw material from store house to schools
2. Food raw materials are of poor quality because of corruption, money siphoning, poor quality monitoring
3. No accountability has been determined for procurement, cooking, supplying with strict performance evaluation
4. Same food served everyday with low nutritional values
5. No complaint helpline
