The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is pleased to inform you that our city has been selected through a competitive process for Smart City Mission under the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD). In the next phase, our city has to compete with 98 other cities to make it to the top 20 to be taken up for first round of funding, for year 2015-16.

The city needs to formulate a vision, mission and a proposal in consultation with citizens and other stakeholders. We urge you to share your ideas and be an integral part of the journey towards making Vizag a smart city!

“My Visakhapatnam of Tomorrow” – A vision Competition

• The question you need to answer is “What is your vision for Vizag smart city”?
• Maximum word limit – 100 words.

The best 3 Vision Statements would be declared as winners.

The competition shall be closed on 1st November, 2015.

Prize Money (Cash / Vouchers / Gift items):

• 1st Prize: INR 10,000/-
• 2nd Prize: INR 6,000/-
• 3rd Prize: INR 4,000/-
• Consolation Prizes (25 nos.): INR 1,000/- each

All the entries must be submitted online through https://mygov.in.

Terms and Conditions

1. All participants must clearly mention following details in their entries:

• Mother’s Name
• Father’s Name
• Address
• Age
• Contact number (with area code)

2. The winner will be chosen on the basis of simplicity of thought, realism in ideas, and originality in content.

3. The decision of GVMC on selection of top three winners and consolation prize winners shall be final. GVMC officials can participate in the competition but will not be eligible for rewards.

1. Ramakrishna Beach (The untapped gold mine) - With over 40000 tourists and regulars visitors cramming about here every weekend, I would like to see more revenue generating steps being taken. And since R.K. beach is the hot spot of the city, most of the revenue generated from here needs to be used for beautification and improving the facilities here.

1)Food at eateries/ sweet shops to be processed and served in a hygienic way. To achieve this, one has to follow certain procedures as follows,
2)Head masks to be used to prevent hair, falling into food items.
3)Mask for mouth to be used to prevent any spit falling on the food items while talking, coughing, sneezing etc. ( This is a must, in view of prevailing swine flue in recent years).
4)Hand gloves to be used while serving food, to prevent contamination.

1)Chemicals, acids, old batteries should not be thrown on the ground as they contain hazardous materials like lead and mercury. These substances have high ill effects on health.
2)Concrete Cement reinforced drainage system to be developed, to prevent seepage of drain water into the ground and thereby preventing ground water pollution.
3)Separate bins to be provided for waste/ e-waste collection and disposed off/recycled at earmarked area, far away from the city).

1)Rain water harvesting is the prime responsibility of each and every individual ( to maintain ground water level and thereby avoiding water scarcity during summer). For achieving this, pit to be made as per norms in the premises of all the houses and rain water to be diverted into it with pipes. Same is to be followed by GVMC for collection of rain water falling on roads.
2)Dumping any kind of waste on ground to be avoided, as it contaminates the ground water.
(Separate bins to be provided)

1)Faster Public transport systems like metro rail & bus to be provided, to discourage use of personal vehicles, which add to pollution. Vehicle pooling to be encouraged.
2)Most of the services like banking, telephone bills, electricity bills, land/house registrations, property tax, insurance works etc. to be made online, to curb vehicle use and thereby reduction in pollution.
3)Vehicles will heavy sound pollution to be curbed.
4)Tar melting during laying of roads to be done outside city

1)Discourage pollution adding industries.
2)Promote software industries.
3)To check pollution at all areas & impose stringent measures on pollution creators.
4)Plant trees which absorb the existing pollution.
5)Promote battery operated, solar and CNG vehicles.
6)Frequent checking and imposing fine on vehicles emitting smoke higher than norms.
7)Cycling tracks to be provided where ever possible to encourage cyclists and thereby reducing vehicular pollution.

1)Burning of garbage/ plastic covers/ plastic waste to be strictly avoided.
2)Burning electric/auto electric wires to reclaim copper is commonly observed on roadside. Inhaling this smoke leads to dangerous diseases. This is to be avoided.
3)Burning tyres during agitations is a common feature now. The black smoke emitted is also, as serious as electric wires burning. People to be educated to give up such acts.
4)Dust on road to be cleaned & grass to be grown on road sides to control dust

1)All kinds of sports/games to be organised regularly.
2)To be slum free
3)Open defecation to be curbed. E-toilets to be provided at all public places.
4)Modern administration for good governance.
5)Multi level parking at important areas to avoid traffic congestion.
6)CC camera surveillance at important places to be provided for security purpose.
7)Quick grievance disposal system.
8)Separate ducts on either side of road.One for drainage system and the other for utility services

1)Amusement parks, planetarium, museum, sea aquarium, adventure cove (as in Singapore) dolphinarium, Musical fountains (as in Dubai) and the like to be developed to attract tourists.
2)Unique attractive spots (like Murudeshwar temple in Karnataka) to be developed.
3)Old jail area to be utilised for development on international standards to attract tourism.
4)Regular cultural/entertainment programs to be organised at open auditoriums.
