Government of India has been implementing crop insurance schemes since 1985 to provide insurance coverage and financial support to farmers including small and marginal farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crop as a result of non-preventable natural calamities, pests & diseases, adverse weather conditions and to stabilize farm income particularly in disaster years. Presently “National Crop Insurance Program (NCIP)” with three components viz., Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS), Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) and Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS) along with National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) is being implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare along the length and breadth of this country.
After review of these schemes, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is in the process of formulating a new crop insurance scheme.
In this context, suggestions for a new name are invited for the proposed new crop insurance scheme.
The last date of submission is 23rd September, 2015.
The following are the conditions for the entries:
1. The name should reflect the objective, that is, a new crop insurance scheme for the benefit of the farmer community
2. Entries should be in Hindi or English

And its irony that if farmers get enough money when they sell their crop. General people going to start crying over onion and sabji prices overall kinda prices. I mean then why were you showing tears for poor farmer. I mean someone lower in chain is getting more benefit now so because of more sabji price isn't it. so its more like crocodile tears of everybody. there is no solution except keep feeding them with sabsidy or special packages. and work to improve the farming technology meanwhile.
wish I can say something about it.I can just say that making farming more technology based is more obvious and doable. I have no say in it. i mean we have small farms. Our farming is very complicated I mean people do their farming based on their traditions and their feeling I don't know how they are using their brain. Plus they don't even get that much money when they sell their crop. All you can provide is subsidy because changing insurance policy whole system is lacking without set up.
