How can the latest advances in digital technologies, including use of mobile phones, big data analytics and other information technology solutions be deployed in Smart Cities. The entries may be in descriptive answer types and may use pictures or videos to explain the answers better.
All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
Questions
1. List three municipal services that can be improved with the use of a mobile phone.
2. Describe 3 aspects of your daily life that have improved with the use of the mobile phone.
3. Suggest 5 ways in which the use of big data can make Indian cities into smart cities.
4. Mention 3 new ways that information technology can improve Governance.
5. How can access to information and data make our public spaces safe and secure?
Entry Deadline
• Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015.
Evaluation
The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Do-ability (50%)
• Innovation (50%)
Award
Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts:
• Rs. 40,000 - First Prize
• Rs. 25,000 - Second Prize
The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot
• All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
• The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only.
• The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less.

c. It can reduce the gap between rich and poor. When everyone has access to all the information, poor people too have the confidence in the government machinery.
d. India can leapfrog in providing the desired benefits to the beneficiary. This can greatly reduce leakages and ensure that every rupee being spent by the government achieves 100% result
Answer 5 a. It can act as an empowerment tool which can enhance transparency and bring accountability so that the common people have the trust in the governance of the system.
b. Information democratisation can drastically reduce the chances of corruption, thereby reducing the possibility of scams which bring a slur to our country
c. Digital Locker: A locker for every citizen to store his/ her entire certificates- Birth Certificate, Driving License, Ration Card, Matriculation, Bank Account Details. This will enable easy access of services and enable the government to know its people better
Answer 4 a. Grievance redressal System- An app which gives citizens the power to get their problems being addressed for any government machinery. This will make all officers and staff accountable and increase easy of service delivery.
b. E- ministry: A ministry which is always online and acts as an interface of government with people. It will tell people on how to deal with their issues solved in the government.
e. Integrated Database Management of Citizens: One website/ app which can provide citizens access to data from various departments- Jal Board, Electricity Board, Development Authorities. This will ensure transparency and increase empowerment of citizens.
c. Security- Advanced Urban Policing to mine data from social networks and integrate people’s offline behaviour so that the whole urban security can become proactive rather than reactive
d. Power- Each households electricity consumption be analysed so as to provide home based solution to optimise consumption and teaching them on how solar based solution can be implemented at their home and its impact
Answer 3: a. Intelligent Transport Systems: An integrated approach to transportation that uses data of various modes- Bus, Metro and Taxis so that various modes complement each other rather than compete, to provide a seamless travel experience
b. Water Supply Management Systems- Each home specific strategies can be suggested to households to conserve water based on their usage pattern which can be computed and analysed.
c. Digital Commerce has made it really easy and accessible to make goods and services. We can order goods for people in our village and pay for it ourselves and also ensure that the product is standardised.
