Employability of our students is a matter of concern. At the other end of the spectrum is need for greater investment in research. Industry academia linkages are essential to meet both these ends. While we have various efforts in this direction, these have not fructified as expected. We need to find out how and what is needed for a more fruitful partnering.

For the nature of jobs where industry or entrepreneurship account for most of the employment, having a close engagement with the industry is absolutely must. A few ways: 1. Student internships in industry (definitely for Masters and Ph.D. level even if for a short while) 2. Inputs of industry in setting college/university curriculum 3. Industry-academic collaboration grants 4. internship grants for students in foreign industry with mandatory return policy

The WORK LOAD calculation for the college teachers need to be revised. The teachers are expected to meet 16 hours of teaching in 30 hours / week work load. If the students are offered Internships for a period of 40 - 50 days, the concerned teachers may not be able to meet the Work Load as prescribed by the UGC. Merely placing the proposals and ordering the colleges / universities to include Internship in curriculum will be a mockery if the fundamental changes in WL for teachers are not redefined

The internship is to be taken up during the working days (not outside the class hours). This will benefit the students as well as the industry personnel as the students will be visiting the work place when everyone is available. If it is carried our on saturdays, the students may not interact with some of the personnel in that company. For this to be done, the government / UGC / Universities concerned should make provision in the curriculum template.

Industry - Institution tie up is the need of the hour at UG and PG levels, especially for science subjects. The students who undergo internship in an industry during his course time, is exposed to the real environment of working place, hands-on experience on various techniques available, team work, work compliance and integrity. This is will be a great experience for the students, which makes them more employable.

Marks in 12th is the selection criteria for admission into colleges. Other abilities such as creativity , expressiveness , logical thinking are all neglected for the entire formative ages of children coming from our state board schools. Expecting colleges to rectify the lacunae is not fair. Psychologically it is proved that character and intellectual growth happens upto 90% by age 16. Colleges can only make 10% difference in fundamental qualities Schools waste precious formative years.

we need to make some bold and innovative exclusions in regular curriculum of an student , like vocation training related to industry with specialist of that fields either Automation, aerospace, consultants who cater to industrial giants need to be included in educational board in order to understand the loopholes and fill it up as per present market requirement.
