Sustainable Exploitation of oil and gas potential of the North East region could be a harbinger of economic prosperity for the people of the region. Presently there seems to be a disconnect between the local communities and the Exploration and Production (E&P) operators in the region. This seems to be discouraging E&P activities in the region thereby reducing the number of takers for operations in the region. Although the Govt. of India has been taking several initiatives to promote E&P in the NER, it is essential to make the local communities an important stakeholder in the process.

Suggestions are invited from the public which could encourage people's participation in these activities.

For community support for E&P activities in NE the effective utilization of the production royalties for local community development specially capacity development is critical. This capacity creation among local youth will create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the region. Current practices don't allow the community to decide on how this money should be invested. In most cases the money is siphoned away to other parts of the country.

Daily green waste from vegetables and fruit peels, grass cut in parks and tree leaves are either thrown away with other wastes or burnt in the open. If we make a rule that every public park and gram panchayat will have a compost pits and the trash collectors are to be paid a nominal amount for delivering green waste, it will encourage them to collect and supply to compost pit. The compost prepared should be sold out to commercially to farmers thus recovering paid outs.MANREGA may be used for it.

...continued from previous. The villages and communities such as those in the North East can have such energy servers installed by the government. Then the communities can sell their waste as fuel for the servers. Meanwhile the servers will generate electricity to power their homes relieving pressure on the grid as excess energy can be sold back to the grid. Thia way the communitys economy grows and consequently the countrys. Even corporates and SEZ can use these servers reducing demand on grid.

No offence but this is silly...why would anyone want to exploit oil reserves when humans will run out of it by 2070? We have already exploited our planet to the extreme and still pushing. A more reasonable alternative is alternative energy. There is a company called Bloom Energy based in the US that has used sophisticated fuel cell technologies using waste biogas (methane, a byproduct of waste decomposition) or CNG to generate electricity...continued...

Last week I went to Vellingiri hills near Coimbatore. I was able to walk in the hills for the entire night with the help of enjoying the moon light. If we switch off street lights for 3 days during the full moon of each month, we can be able to safe 10% total energy spend on street lights per year. Also people will enjoy the moon light too.

We can instill confidence and develop bond with locals if regional students are picked up and trained at IIM Dhanbad and post them in their home state for E&P activities. We can increase intake at Dhanbad and offer extra seats to them. NE geology is unique and needs specialised training. Also oil revenue sharing must be in favor of NE states for infrastructure development, better health facilities, and for setting up of AIIMs hospitals/medical college in NE states.
