In order to design an interoperable ecosystem of data, applications and processes, there is a need to formulate a policy for the Government Organizations to provide Open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). The “Policy on Open APIs for Government of India” has been drafted to encourage formal use of Open APIs in Government Organizations. This policy sets out the Government’s approach on the use of “Open APIs” to promote software interoperability for all e-Governance applications & systems and provide access to data & services for promoting participation of citizens and other stakeholders.

You are requested to provide your inputs on the policy and suggest implementation approach across the government.

Why cant Indian government start a project similar to "Silicon valley" so that many innovations and creativity of the Indians will get a platform. And this helps to India in not only servicing the other companies but to create our own software products.

It will be a great idea to include in this site the informations to know which are the ideas selected for further scrutiny. Make some ranking system based on the value of inputs by the people. This will tremendously boost the interest of the contributors of ideas. The rank will improve if his/her ideas are getting selected. Also include in this site the informations about the actions taken on the selected ideas.

Can we create an API which makes use of "Aadhaar number". For any work, like new phone number, new bank account, we can always have just one number, the Aadhaar number, being entered in the form(this will also simplify every form/document). The company can then hit an API that fetches all required details from Govt server, hence customer hassles, saving time and saving paper. This will also help govt in reducing paper work and simplify many more tasks.

Dear sir,
. I think we must first make all emergency services toll free number where we can get service of all like police, ambulance, firedept etc under one number which will help as it will make it easier for every one to remember and use it at the time of need rather than trying to figure out what the number for the required service.eg: 911 of usa, I think will benefit all of us. My suggestion use 100 as the number as almost all the people knows it it already has vast infrastructure

NIC should hire talented web developers and should revolutionize the whole site system by making them responsive i.e. viewable in all sizes of screens. People with no PCs have still to far cafes to submit their applications etc because they can't access Government sites on mobile. Responsive sites will not only whole population reach gov online facilities but also will make sites lighter, faster, easy to use, reduce load on servers and will consume less bandwidth(atleast half of current).Check MDN

Instead of heading towards only mobile Government should make app-like responsive sites which are then not called sites but web apps instead.Modern Javascript APIs like Notification API, Service Workers, LocalStorage, light API, Vibration API and a lot more are available which should be used. Development on ASPX should be stopped and languages like Ruby, PHP should be used. Government sites are extremely poor, without making them responsive Digital India will be accessible to only 10% of people.
