Waste management is an important requirement for ecologically sustainable development. Efficient sorting of waste is a major issue in today’s society. The main goals of this discussion are to come up with solutions for the following problems using technology as a tool.

1) Reducing waste production
2) Ensuring that wastes are properly disposed
3) Recycling and re-using disposed products

“Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” or the "Clean India Mission" is India's biggest cleanliness campaign that aims to accomplish the vision of "Clean India". Waste management is an integral part of this campaign. To assist the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” initiative, projects may be setup to create products which are solar-powered trash receptacle and trash compactor that alerts sanitation crews of municipal authorities, when it is full.

Also E-Waste (obsolete, discarded, broken and surplus electrical and electronic devices) is of immediate and long term concern as the industry is unregulated and recycling can lead to major environmental degradation posing a major threat to human health.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new generation technology which allows integration of small devices/gadgets with web based system .The devices send signals through sensors using constraint application protocol (CoAP), Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) etc. and interact with the web-based system using the HTTP protocol, So the existing solution architectures are getting extended.

We would like to welcome your ideas on how a smart waste management system using IoT can be implemented in order to achieve the target of “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”.

What I think about waste management is that we can use sewage water of cities for irrigation of near by villages surrounding  that city under 'amrut ' scheme it also reduces the use of govt subsidy  urea. isnt it a good idea .it is already being implemented in chitoor  district of Andhra near tirupati.

Regarding waste management.
Research  has been made that plastic waste can be used to replace  significant amount of bitumen in road construction.  currently its been only used as suggestion in construction of rural road. Why cant we make  concrete steps towards mandatory use of it all road construction and repairs.  even plastic waste can be avoided and the roads would be more durablr

1)Major Boost has to be given for recycling & reuse of E Waste which is major toxic polluter. Start-up for E Waste management should be encouraged under START-UP INDIA & MoUD SMART CITY program.
2) Construction Waste is another major waste which is usually dumped as landfills in low laying areas. Some times these wastes are dumped in Lakes during summer when water level is low. Construction wastes can be recycled with proper industrial set-up. Support should be given under START-UP program

Dear sir, Nowadays though we have separate dustbins for disposal of d waste people do not use it properly. To overcome this i tried a small way which was effective. The idea is dumping all the waste in a machine which has a continues supply of water n crushing the waste to piece. Loose packing of the waste has to be done after sometime biodegradable waste settles at bottom and plastic stay at top water can be cleaned with an outlet at bottom degradable waste can be used to make fuel.

Dear Sir,
If We have old clothing, electronics, or other items We don't want but are still in decent shape, donate them instead of throwing them out in the trash.

Off-late people have become very selfish and least bothered about environment. To change the attitude of people there should be some off the beat method. Let state governments start paying for wet wast. Let at-least people get disciplined by segregating and handing over wet waste properly. Post photos of people throwing wastes on the streets in website which are caught by CCTV cameras.

swagatham.I am jagannathan engineering student. With the aid of an android application,a cloud server and a simple safe overhead hanging robot in every street we can effectively handle the waste disposal process. This is an IoT solution to handle waste. The system works in same way as that of the ola cabs system.#SwachhBharatAbhiyan, #CleanIndiaMission, #IoT, #SmartWasteManagement, #MyGov. we have presented the prototype of it in INTEL hackathon 2016 held @bangalore

things I observed in foreign countries
1) huge shrinking machine or grinding machine to reduce the size of the waste.
2) Germany had vending machine which can identify recyclable material and gives out .25 euro coupon for each bottle. people don't throw bottles after use and get discount on recycling.
3) hands free waste consolidation from each house. each house waste box which vehicles empty and shrink automatically.

Dear Sir, Waste segregation is utmost important from rural villages to Metros but the biggest challenge is to provide awareness to each individual. My suggestion is to donate one set of colored bins like GREEN [For Organic/compost], BLUE [For Dry/plastic/paper/recycle], RED [For rejected/medical waste] and GRAY [for Electronics waste] bins to each and every school in the country along with a waste segregation guidelines poster [attached sample]. So children automatically change their parents.
