Increasing non-fare revenue for Indian Railways

Start Date :
Jun 14, 2016
Last Date :

Although Indian Railways enjoy the highest captive eyeballs in a railway system internationally, it earns less than 5% of its revenues through non-tariff sources. Many of the world ...
Indian railways is having the largest networks of rail line but in most of the areas only one or two trains passes in a day. We can use these rail tracks or the area left unutilised beside tracks for laying solar power panels just like France did it on its highways. It will provide enough energy for villages nearby and industrial areas.
Our railways is one of the biggest network.
A very warm thanks to SHRI. NARENDER MODI JI for inspiring youth for collecting their ideas, views and applying the same in building the nation.
i would also like to suggest one idea which in beneath my mind, the idea is to "open small compartment in each bogie which provide goods & services(like hand crafted bag, jute bag, fresh fruits etc...) to the passengers.
Start more and more ro-ro services to carry goods.Increase the availability of wagon.Give special discount for some particular transportation.Make long -term agreement for some companies with goods transportation.
Dear IR Team,
Kindly find below the list of things i feel which can improve service level and revenue.
1. Reminder call to the passenger on Train timings so that they can reach station on time
2. IR can collaborate with Taxi operators to pickup and drop as part of their services to enable elders to easily commute.
3. enabling e-porter services where the luggage can be picked and dropped to passengers location
4. Enabling meals booking of choice along with ticket booking
Start painting coaches for advertisements. put a cost for yearly allotment of surface area space. This will help to maintain the coach outer body from rust and other wears and tears, and products can be advertised.

- Rail neer bottles can have advertisement, to increase revenue.
- AC coaches can have a digital screen showcasing railways intiatives and adverts.
- All railway stations can be turned solar power stations to reduce power bills and generate revenue if surplus generated
- Surplus railway land can be utilised to lease out for public functions to generate revenue
- short distance 100-150 Km, push pull trains to utilise the existing lines around cities and improve connectivity
One way to increase the revenue of Indian railways is through advertisements by setting up screens. The other ways of increasing the revenue is to reduce the expenses on fuel.If we tend more towards alternative and renewable energy like solar energy it will be very beneficial.Just as DMRC made almost all metro stations equppped with solar power you can also do it.That will be eco friendly too. Also if possible install panels on top of the trains.Impose strict penalties on those who litter station.
Appoint more TTEs and also appoint Supervisor for TTEs. Make the station closed(i.e covered) by surroundings so passengers must exit through specified gate and non ticket goers will be caught.Send TTEs in every trains including local,DMUs,EMUs etc , more than 40% travelers don't purchase tickets because TTEs are not checking . Railway must sell water, snacks, cold drinks etc in Express,Superfast trains. Thanking #Indian Railways for serving INDIA
To impose heavy fine for illegal activists like vender or such persons heavy fine for spitting people near and inside the train or platform which will help to increase income and clean.Keep leavy for selling items in train.Allow hotels or cafeteria and special suits in train.Keep some emergency seats for current booking for some extra money.
Cleaning of compartments : Either be given to pvt companies like those who produce cleaning and hygenie realted products or IR employees may get sponsered uniforms from those companies ( like in the case of cricket teams)
Selling Merchandise: Take a leaf out of Air flights and have a store selling food and other necessities like milk, Soaps,Medicines, Napkins. Travellers who reach early mornings find it difficult to buy groceries after days out of home.
