For delivering various Citizen centric services and furthering the reach of Financial Services including Insurance, the Government of India has set up a Task Force to examine and recommend efficient utilisation and upgradation of the Post Office Network, enabled with Digital/Internet Connectivity to rural Offices and outpost areas enabling reach of different services in rural areas. This Network is also being viewed as a distribution channel to retail various schemes and services of Central Government, State Government and Private Sector Players.

Through this discussion the Department of Posts (Ministry of Communications & Information Technology) seeks suggestions on the following:

•    To provide efficient postal network and points of presence [particularly in rural areas and small towns] to Central Government Ministries / Departments, State Governments [including Local Self Government] and private sector players for delivering various citizen-centric services, scheme, products to the people.
•    To further the role of Post Offices in Financial inclusion, including Insurance products
•    The infrastructure requirements of the Post Offices and the Postal Network
•    To make the Post Offices financially viable

replace old staff or make them responsible. they still don't work full hours. Give it a corporate look. In villages make post office as cyber café / computer learning centre for the village students and people. Make access to real time delivery status with handheld machine. Develop online postoffice, so that urban people can send direct message / letter to remote village and postoffice can take printout and deliver it to the addressee. creating account should be simple and online only.

We should not let the network of post office die. Even today the network and reach of post office is way better than other players but they grossly lack in service and reliability. We need to revamp it, may be by making it a JV of public private participation and train and motivate it's employees by way of incentives to create a customer oriented approach and reliable delivery mechanism. This network may be used to monitor other Government schemes in remote areas.

Create consumer friendly postal home/office pick up and delivery; Quicker and committed delivery; Create Post-offices in each and every area (like Private courier services), which may be smaller unit; Extend the post-office timings till 9.00 pm or so, which will help office working people.

Attractive facades for post office , it shld be modernized as the time passes. Government policies for fast. Internet browsing speed can be. Introduced by post-office at cheaper rates than the private companies. Like the Jan dhan yojana, a mobile no. Can b given to all through post office in which all can get notice of useful program through msgs. So that ordinary ppl also have track on the updates. Different schemes on faster courier services than the private firms. Nice interiors.

Post office and BSNL are being systematically killed by senior officials. In case of BSNL, senior officers are still in dept of telecom while lower cadre are in BSNL. Surveys of where to install the towers were made but they are never implemented in BSNL because of delay in decision making leading to lower subscription from people. the same survey was sold to other leading telecom players who improved their network and captured market. strike by employees to quicken this decision did not help.
