The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
      1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
      a. Waste management and zero waste systems
      b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
      c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
      d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
      e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
      f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
      g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

      How to participate?
      1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
      2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
      3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

The idea is to transform Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, Baghpat, into a Zero Waste Mahotsav during Mahashivratri by combining devotion with environmental responsibility. The festival will eliminate single-use plastics and promote reusable steel or earthen utensils, cloth bags, and eco-friendly decorations made from flowers, leaves, and bamboo. Separate bins for wet, dry, and recyclable waste, along with composting of flowers and organic offerings, will ensure scientific waste management. Volunteers, local schools, and community groups will create awareness through cleanliness drives and waste segregation campaigns. QR code-based information, digital signboards, and water refill stations will reduce paper and plastic waste. Compost generated from temple offerings can be used for temple gardens. This initiative will support Swachh Bharat Mission and Mission LiFE, encourage community participation, protect the environment, and establish Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple.

Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi – Every Devotee, A Green Guardian The Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela can become India's first Green Devotion Festival, where every pilgrim helps protect nature. Introduce a QR-based Green Pass that rewards devotees for using reusable bottles, cloth bags, and segregated waste bins. Green Points can be exchanged for prasad coupons or digital certificates. Make the mela plastic-free with biodegradable plates and a "No Plastic, No Stall" policy. Convert flower offerings into compost and incense through local self-help groups. Engage NSS, NCC, schools, and volunteers to guide visitors. Display a live Zero Waste Dashboard showing plastic saved, waste recycled, and water refills. This model combines faith, technology, and community participation to make the mela a national example of sustainable religious tourism.

Prasad ke saath Ek Kachra – Ek Kadam Swachhta" Niyam: Har bhakt prasad lene ya darshan ke baad sirf 1 kachre ka tukda (plastic bottle, wrapper, paper, etc.) uthakar dustbin mein dale. Kyun ye idea achha hai? Safai karmchari ka kaam kam hoga. Sarkar ko Zero Waste ka achha model milega. Mandir par extra kharcha nahi hoga. Bhakton ki participation badhegi.

To transform Mahashivratri into a zero-waste festival, the temple must address the massive volume of organic waste generated from floral offerings, milk, and food distributions (bhandaras).Implementation Steps:Eco-Friendly Offerings: Ban single-use plastic bags for flowers and sweets inside the temple premises. Encourage devotees to bring offerings in reusable baskets or biodegradable leaf plates (donas and pattals).Segregated Waste Collection: Set up clearly color-coded, labeled dustbins across the temple premises for organic waste (flowers, leaves, leftover food) and recyclable waste (plastic bottles, cardboard).On-Site Flower Recycling: Partner with local self-help groups or NGOs to collect the offered flowers (marigold, bel patra) daily. These can be processed on-site or nearby into organic incense sticks (agarbatti), natural colors, or organic compost.Liquid Waste Management: Create a dedicated drainage and filtration system

My name is Biswaprakash Bhol from Phulnkhara, Katak, Odisha.I have explained my little idea below: "Green Pilgrim Mission – Zero Waste Mahashivratri at Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, Baghpat" To transform the Mahashivratri Mahotsav into a true Zero Waste event, a combination of community participation, technology, and sustainable infrastructure should be adopted. A QR-based Green Seva App can guide devotees to drinking water stations, reusable utensil counters, toilets, parking areas, and waste collection points while also providing awareness messages on eco-friendly practices. Volunteers, NCC/NSS students, and local youth can serve as Green Mitras, helping pilgrims segregate waste and promoting responsible behaviour. Religious gatherings generate large amounts of waste due to poor waste segregation and excessive plastic use. I propose the GreenMela QR System, a smart solution combining technology, public participation, and rewards. Visitors scan a QR code at the entrance to access a digital map showing biodegradable, recyclable, and general waste bins. QR-enabled smart bins and trained volunteers help people dispose of waste correctly. Visitors earn Green Points for responsible waste disposal or cleanliness activities, redeemable for eco-friendly gifts, drinking water, certificates, or local stall discounts. Biodegradable waste is converted into compost for parks and temple gardens, while recyclable waste is sent to authorized recycling units. A live dashboard enables authorities to monitor waste collection, overflowing bins, and volunteer activities in real time. The initiative also promotes reusable steel water stations, cloth bags, biodegradable leaf plates, and awareness through LED screens and
