Bihar Sharif is the fifth most populous city in the state and district headquarters of Nalanda district. It is a regional, economic
and political hub with excellent rail and road connectivity and is renowned as the capital of South Central Bihar. It is
strategically located with respect to places of immense historical and cultural importance. The ruins at Nalanda, which is a
World Heritage site, is just 13 km away from Biharsharif.

The city has harnessed its agricultural base to develop its industrial sector. The large produce base is a huge potential
(Nalanda district has the second highest agricultural productivity in Bihar with 74.4% of land under cultivation and 57% of the
gross cultivated land irrigated) to facilitate new businesses and innovative ancillary industries that has provided local
employment opportunities. In the last 3 years, some of the noteworthy initiatives at city level under implementation include
increase in energy availability and reduction in outages; improvements in transport through widening of roads & drains , antiencroachment
drives, preparation of intelligent traffic management systems, Implementation of e-governance. Improvements
have been noted in basic infrastructure especially solid waste management, landscape development and sanctioning of a
water supply project.

Our city “Biharsharif” scored 49.11 marks in the previous round of the Smart City selection process. The Government of
India has set benchmark of 55 marks out of 100 for a winning proposal. The feedback given by GoI in previous round is that
the proposal should be more participative. So, Biharsharif Municipal Corporation is currently working on upgrading its
proposals for round 3 of the Smart City mission. One of the key processes of the mission is to engage with the citizens at
every stage in order to prioritize the areas for intervention. The citizen engagement would lead to a meaningful envisioning
exercise and identify the priority areas of physical, social; economic and institutional infrastructure.

To update our proposal in order to achieve the benchmark set by the MOUD and the winning cities, Biharsharif Municipal
Corporation appeal the citizens to engage and provide their suggestions in formulation of the Smart City proposal in Round 3
for our city Biharsharif.

The Smart City proposal in previous round submitted to MOUD can be accessed through the link mentioned below:-
The Smart City Challenge Stage 2

Biharsharif Municipal Corporation aims to engage citizens for ideas , suggestions and comments so that it can be
incorporated to formulate a winning proposal in round 3 . We request you to post your valuable suggestions on or
before 10/03/2017.We request you to spare some of your valuable time and contribute in making Biharsharif as a Smart City.

I have not seen any Signal light system in Biharsharif for traffic management. Ramchanderpur is a nightmare for commuter . The sabjimandi entrance n Bus terminal is at wrong place as they both contribute heavy traffic to National highway and most of the jams is from BUSES running in wrong direction .

There should be separate roads for heavy motor Vehicle as the highway is congested with trucks ,trolley n bus. Flyover from badi pahari to rajgir more will help.

every year we face water scarcity in summer due to the decline of underground water level at the same time quite a large amount of water is wasted by us everday which in turn pose another problem on our drainage system.here i want to suggest that government should make a law to have a compulsary water harvesting units in each and every homes so that the water do not get wasted.this can reduce the excess water in drains and also can help to conserve water

The Govt should lay emphasis on changing the specification of the railway lines The rails used today are overloaded & are not having any alloying element .Rails undergo lot of fatigue for this it is necessary that these should be of alloy type Most derailments & accidents are due to this reason .Generally long rails are used but on curved portions it should be short .Metallurgist should be involved in collaboration with civil engineers , the & then only safety will come through N C Chawla
