MUTINY AT RIASC, KURLA, MUMBAI.
My father Hav. M.C. Ramamurthi along with Havildar Awayal Badsha and Lance Naik Mudgal led a strike on 21st Feb 1946 in solidarity with the Indian Naval ratings. After the surrender of the naval ratings on 24th Feb'1946, all three also called off the strike and went back to duty only to be detained by the military police and held in single cells in Santacruz Military Prison. The army headquarters set up a court-martial consisting of Brig. HM Mohite, Maj. Johnson, and Maj Saleem to try for attempt to cause a mutiny. Purushottam Das Tricumdas, chairman of the Indian Socialist Party lead the legal support .
However, all three were tried and the court-martial found them guilty. As luck would have it, due to the assumption of the interim council, all three were discharged. My father wrote to the government of the day with no response. He has inspired all of us to rise to occasion for the cause of the nation. Nation First!
Major Durga Malla was born on 1 July 1913 at village Doiwala in the Dehradun district of Uttaranchal. Durga Malla had drawn inspiration from the poet and social reformer Subedar-Major Bahadur Singh Baral and the musician and playwright Mitra Sen Thapa.Durga Malla was one of those who played an important role in the formation of the Indian National Army. In 1942, he not only joined this Army with a patriotic zeal but also inspired his fellow men to join it. Crores of Hindustanis will be with you after my death. The Sacrifice I am offering, shall not go in vain. India shall be free. I am confident, this is only a matter of time.”
Radhashyam Chaudhury was a freedom fighter from the village of Denur in Burdwan District of West Bengal. He was an eminent lawyer and patriot.
He was involved in activities against the British for freedom of the nation and had been to jail several times. His mother Srimati Chandan Kuari Chaudhury once signed an affidavit to the British confirming that her son would not participate in any anti British activities and there after ensured release of her son. After coming out of jail, Radhashyam Chaudhury when became aware of his mother's affidavit, he was very depressed. Neither he could go against his Mother's word nor he could stop participating in activities for the freedom of his Motherland. And thus committed suicide in repentance at an early age leaving behind his wife and three kids. His sacrifice and service to India is a motivation for generations to come.
Durgawati Devi and Gulab Kaur are among 20 freedom fighters whose lives have been chronicled in a pictorial book titled “India’s Women Unsung Heroes: The Brave Women of our Freedom Struggle”.Gulab Kaur was a Ghadarite. She and her husband Mann Singh sailed to India from Philippines to mobilise the masses against the British rule. “When her husband developed cold feet, she abandoned him”,during the recent agitation by the farmers against the controversial farm laws, a hall was named after Gulab Kaur by the farmers at their protest site at Tikri border.Durgawati Devi had accompanied Bhagat Singh as his wife during his escape to Kolkata from Lahore after he shot John Saunders. For the escape Bhagat Singh had dressed up in western attire while Durgawati (known as “Durga bhavi” in revolutionary circles) wore a very expensive sari and goggles to play her part as the wife of a fashionably dressed husband. Her child ‘Sachi’, who was then an infant, was with her”,The book, brought out by the mi
