The War of Independence of 1857 started with a mutiny in the army camp at Meerut on 10 May 1857 and soon spread to many parts of North and Central India. This struggle is also known by other names like Freedom Summer of 1857, First Indian Freedom Struggle, Sepoy Mutiny. This revolt started the Indian independence movement and after 90 years, India became independent in 1947. On 10th May 1857, Indian soldiers of the East India Company in the Meerut camp, 40 miles from Delhi, raised a revolt and soon it spread to North East and Central India. The rebellion which started on 10 May ended only after Gwalior was captured by the Company on 20 June 1858. The rebel sepoys captured Meerut and immediately launched a powerful attack on Delhi, crushed the company officers and the British army sitting in Delhi and declared the 81-year-old Bahadur Shah II as the emperor of India. Salute to all those first independent soldiers.Thank you

Independence is not just a celebration of freedom, but it is a continuous war. This was made possible by generations of freedom fighters; some known, many unknown. They made great sacrifices. Today, you and I breathe under free skies thanks to their heroic deeds. Our nation, like many others, suffered great injustices and tyranny under foreign rule. What distinguishes India however, is that the character of our nationalist movement, led by Mahatma Gandhi, was based on the principles of truth and non-violence. He and all other national heroes provided us with an invaluable blueprint to not only liberate the nation from colonial rule, but also to rebuild it. Gandhiji's struggle was for a return to Indian ethos and for human dignity.
Now as we look back to the journey of our republic, we have reasons to be proud of the considerable distance we have travelled. Gandhiji taught us that slow and steady steps in the right direction are preferable to rapid strides in the wrong direction.

each place in India has history with truthful evidence , it was birthplace of great saint/ warrior/ kings of past , so also bad personality who harm Hindustan, many freedom fighters who participated in freedom movement ,dead his family never claim any benefit, nor want any benefits, but to HONOR such family if any evidence of truth , SUCH MUST BE "pin on the map" of India.
